OT- What should the rockets do?*

Post#1 » by Ernest » Wed Jan 13, 2021 2:09 pm

* Let's make this a hypothetical where the Celtics don't exist. That way we can be more objective. No need to talk Harden to Boston talk here. Anyways...

Just wondering what y'all would do if you were the Houston GM.

Keeping him is one option. Hakeem demanded a trade and they just ignored him and won titles the next year- or maybe 2 years later, I can't remember.

Trying to trade for a young star is a good option. Remains to be seen what they could get.

Another option might be to try to trade for the most picks and rookie contract guys as possible. Go long on a rebuild. The new lotto odds don't really reward tanking. Is it worth it to just guy the roster and get as many picks as possible and try to copy what we did after the KG big 3?

It sounds like their only "young star" option is going to be Simmons and I don't think Rockets fans are happy about that.

Take the best deal as soon as possible....if they keep him into next offseason he will kill deals for them and severely limit the return they net. It’s a huge mistake.

Not only that but half the league is monitoring beal also and there will be teams who pass on harden and wait on beal. Just get realistic about returns and get a deal. Your not gonna get everything in a return that you want but a young all star/all star potential player or cornerstone player will come back.

Just make the deal and move on, call Philly or Miami and find a common ground. If it’s me I’m taking 1)Simmons 2)mpj 3) herro

I take Simmons and whatever else they can milk from Philly as soon as possible (if Philly is even willing). Harden's value is trending down pretty fast and it seems like the situation is turning toxic. Unhappy Harden is likely to gain weight just from all the stripper glitter that lands in his whiskey.

Simmons plus whatever else you can get from Morey. Hold out as long as you need to even if it means waiting out all of this season. I'd want at least 3 more pieces whether they're picks or Maxey/Thybulle, but at least 3 additional assets to Ben.

This will set the table for the next decade in Houston. They can't rush it and can't take a subpar 5 quarters for a dollar type deal. They need a cornerstone out of it.

I would be gunning for Brown or Simmons. Herro is considerably worse than those 2. Kyrie would be scheming to get out of Houston the second he gets traded there. If you could send Kyrie to a third team and get something back as good or better than Herro then that would be an option. Levert and Dinwiddie are 26 and 27 respectively. They seem too old for a rebuilding unless the owner just wants a fringe playoff team.

Something that's never discussed in today's world - suspend his ass without pay for the remainder of the year.

That would lower his trade value even more than his attitude and the fat he's been adding combined.

They are losing leverage by the day. If I’m Houston, I trade him for Simmons and picks. If I can’t get that, then at the very least, I’m hoping for cap relief and picks to replenish the stash that they gave up in the Westbrook deal (which ironically enough, was forced by Harden).

Lol they are going to end up with Precious Achiuwa, Olynyk, Iguodala, 3 2nd rounders and a jar of South Beach sand at this point.

The fat **** is nuking his trade value at a rapid rate. When you're basically getting called out by John Wall for being a little bitch 9 games into the season, **** ain't looking too good for you.

I'm guessing they DON'T want Kyrie now. Can you imagine if they had pulled the trigger on that a month ago and Kyrie melted down on them this quickly?

Trade him to the Knicks for all of their picks and prospects.

Keep him unless they get an overwhelming amount of picks and an actual good young player (i.e. not Caris LeVert). They have to get Simmons at worst I think.

Rockets should Celebrate. :wizard: :jawdrop:

In exchange for James Harden, Rockets get:

Nets unprotected 2022, 2024,and 2026 1rst Round Picks

Option to Swap 1rst Round Picks with Nets in 2021, 2023, 2025 and 2027

Milwaukee's 2022 1rst Round Pick

Victor Oladipo from Indiana

Dante Exum from Cleveland

Rodions Kurucs from Nets

That's what I call a SLAM DUNK win after trading all those picks away for Russell Westbrook a year ago.

In addition, the Rockets just went from $5 Million over the luxury tax line to $3 Million under. So, in addition to saving $8 million in salary, the Rockets should get a check of around $9 million at the end of the year when the luxury tax payments are distributed. That is a Net Gain to the bottom line of about $17 Million.

So in five years it will all about them wasting their treasure chest after robbing the Nets?

If after five years, they have two players the quality of Brown and Tatum, they should count themselves lucky.

I feel like people underestimate how hard it is to draft a top tenish player and a top 25ish player.

Oh, I realize that. I'm waiting for 1 of these teams to stand up on principles. Obviously they have none.
