How Do You Attack The Box & 1?

Post#1 » by jaymo123 » Wed Jan 13, 2021 6:18 am

To the basketball experts, how do you attack the box & 1? I'm noticing teams imploring this strategy over the past 4 or 5 games.

Same as we always do - shooters, ball movement. You cannot have 2 players the opposing team wants to shoot, because that’s exactly what they’ll try and do. The teams 2nd best shooter is Lee or Mulder.. so drop one of them in and sub Oubre out

Don’t play 2 players the defense isn’t even trying to guard

Or kick Kerr and his ballless sack for not making changes we all know that he doesn't.

Dump/penetrate inside the box, get open short/mid shots or pass out if the box collapses. The problem is the passing out doesn't work if you don't have anyone who can knock down those shots. Wiggins, Oubre, Paschall, Lee, and Mulder have shown some flashes of being able to do that lately, but it's erratic. Playing Wiseman inside should make sure the defense can't leave it open under the basket (ie. collapse the box on the back end), or alternatively leave at least 1 corner 3 open, but he's been in foul trouble a lot lately and not playing big minutes.

Let Wiggins be the point forward and not Green. They can't sag on Wiggins like they do on Green. This may also open up some opportunities for Wiseman down in the block too.
