Bucks get Dipo, Lopez twins reunite!

Post#1 » by slos » Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:03 pm

Three team trade MIL/HOU/WAS

Milwaukee in Oladipo, their 2022 FRP back
Milwaukee out Brook, Wilson, 2021 and 2023 FRPs + rights to 2022 swap

Houston in Bryant, Wilson, Robinson, MIL 2021 and 2023 FRPs + rights to 2022 swap
Houston out Oladipo, MIL 2022 FRP

Washington in Brook
Washington out Bryant, Robinson

Why Milwaukee? They upgrade their 4th option from Brook to Dipo at the cost of another 1st. Bucks keep DDV to lead their bench, slide Portis in the starting 5 and try to get another big using their other small contracts and whatever 2nds they have in the deadline or the buyout market.

Holiday........Augustin
Oladipo........DiVincenzo.........Merrill
Middleton.....Forbes...............Nwora
Giannis........Connaughton.......Thanasis
Portis..........Craig

Why Washington? They keep trying to win and make the playoffs moving their injured young big for BroLo and reunite him with RoLo. This will help them with their D issues since Brook can become the defensive anchor they need.

Why Houston? They cash in Dipo quickly with another unprotected 1st from Milwaukee. They embrace the tanking taking back Bryant who is out for the season but still has potential (he's only 23). Having a look into two more young players (Robinson, Wilson) won't hurt them either.

This would put us above the hardcap.

Actually this keeps Milwaukee slightly under the hard cap (138,2 mil) but you are right that there is still the problem with Jrue's likely bonuses which are close to an extra 4 mil. I guess this could be solved though. I don't know if Jrue can waive this bonuses with an agreement that Bucks will include them in his next deal. The alternative would be to wait until Feb 5 to include Augustin in the package or Mar 2 to add Connaughton. This is how it could look:

Milwaukee in Oladipo, their 2022 FRP back
Milwaukee out Brook, Wilson, Augustin, 2021 and 2023 FRPs + rights to 2022 swap

Houston in Bryant, Wilson, Smith, MIL 2021 and 2023 FRPs + rights to 2022 swap
Houston out Oladipo, MIL 2022 FRP

Washington in Brook, Augustin
Washington out Bryant, Smith

Value seems fair, but I think losing Lopez is an issue. He's the Bucks best big by a longshot.

I don't think Wizards has any need of BroLo

It would be a good move for Mil, and theres probably a way they can do it. I think you have to take Washington out of it though. Houston would love to flip Victor for more assets so if theres a 3rd team that wants BLopez and willing to give up picks for him then they might be in business.

All bonuses count against the hard cap, likely and unlikely. He cannot waive his bonuses. He would have to sign a new contract that eliminates them, but that wouldn’t go in effect for this current season.
