At this point IMO we should keep the following:
Mitchell/Randle/Obi/Knox/RJ/Quickley/Rivers/Burcs
We can get rid of:
Elfrid/Noel/DSJ/Frank/Bullock/Iggy/Harper/Pinson/Harper
Taj will win up staying with the team but I just don’t want him taking minutes away from Obi.
When will Obi be back?

Nobody knows. Last I heard he’s out at least another week. Could be more.

Obi is our future starting power forward.
Quickley needs to convince Thibs he can guard opposing pgs to be considered a starter which I want him to be.
Randle will probably be our starting PF for the next four years. I don’t want to trade him anymore.
RJ needs to work on being efficient and consistent. No more great shooting games followed by horrendous field goal shooting games.
Rivers is the glue.

Going to have to think of replacing Randle with RJ in the "keep or trade" discussion. Would we be able to get a top 10 pick in this rich draft? One who could play PG or shoot for RJ?

Are you actually considering trading RJ for a draft pick? Wow! I wouldn’t give up on him just Getz he is in only his second season and has shown improvement.
At this point I would just leave well enough alone. Maybe if possible trade Elfrid and Noel as a tandem as well as future second round picks that we have to try to get another first rounder in this years draft, but I don’t think anyone would bite.

More I look at RJ's stats more he looks like another Knox. Both have PERs half or less than their usage rate. Knox wouldn't get u a second rounder but somone might bite on RJ. Shooting guard has "SHOOTING" in its job description. 38% fg and 21% threes ain't cutting it. 10 and 11 pers ain't either.

I get you, but Randle is doing so well he has changed my mind on trading him. He’s putting up starter all star numbers!
If after the trade deadline we still have Randle then I would start Obi over him.
But I don’t see that working out and may be too big a hit on Randles ego. He’s only 26.
Maybe this starting lineup can work:
Mitchell
Randle
Obi
RJ
Quickley.

Obi's not quick enough nor mobile enough to handle guarding 3's in this league. He's a 4, but if he defends somewhat good, he should get a chance at starting, or else Randle's gonna play 35 minutes a night.

I’d keep Randle but I’m biased. If Obi becomes what I think he can become offensively, then Randle can be the 3rd big in a 3 big rotation.

Payton to me will always be a 3rd string PG. yeah, he’ll have stretches of good scoring games. Doesn’t mean he’s a good floor general.

I think Obi will be good enough to play the 3,4,and 5 spots.

Id trade both and it ain't even cuz I don't respect what Randles doing this yr but he's finally garnering some respect and probably only now has value. That's sortve when you gotta do it. Thing is I probably wouldn't just be looking to trade for a draft pick but rather young players on rookie deals a couple yrs into thier development.

1) Payton has a NTC. He needs to waive it to be traded. But he likes to play here while he is getting his minutes.

2) Payton has almost no value. We got him for 5M/y because no team wanted him. He is a no shooter PG. He is a bad fit for almost any team. And he is not playing very well. At best, we would get an expiring salary filler for a desperate team who somehow lost their vet(s) PGs.

3) Before thinking about trading him, we have to make him expendable, finding better PGs options. We have not to gain flipping Payton. We will not receive anything of value for him.

4) I cant see Thibs trusting a rookie late FRP with small frame and not so good defensive instincts to be our starter PG. Especially before having less than 30 good games in his baggage. Frank is also a passive player, injury prone and poor career shooter to deserve some consideration for the starter position. He would have to have some dozens of good games to change the overall perception of him.

I think we should max Randle and make him a Knick lifer. Trade for shooters and defenders and let the man go to work.

Randle is terrific right now. But I wonder if he can keep performing so well as the second or the third option of a good team. He has a great usage rate, he clogs the paint, he slows the game.

I fear no one will give a FRP to find out. Especially, having to give a 15M filler to make the deal works. I think the trade is not very likely.

Besides, we have to check Obi's potential as an NBA player before assuming Randle is expandable. I think he would have to change his game because he can't physically dominate his opponents anymore. If we cant label him a bust before giving him time, we cant label him a Randle substitute before he proves to have the potental.

Exactly I would only trade him for all-star player or starter lvl pg I don't know why Knicks fans want to collected gazillions low first rounders and second round picks you need talent to win in this league not quantity.

An all-star for Randle?

You see what Andre Drummond got traded for? That's what we'd get back for Randle, his value around the league is a whole lot lower than you think. I'd rather some 2nds than have Randle too, he's a negative asset.
