Yes he's our best player.. but I think he's more important for the playoffs than the regular season. We have too much guard depth as it is.. but where in the lottery do you see them? 10-14 range or lower?
And what about the players we get back for Norm and Lowry. Would they add a win or two, or no?
Play GM and give me a trade scenario. Then let me know what lottery pick they will get.
Because I really don't see bottom 5 or 7 team here. That's probably less likely than Giannis asking to be traded this summer and wanting to go to Toronto.
Well, we just finished the easiest stretch of our season and we're currently tied for the 8th pick in the draft. After this week we have the 3rd hardest schedule to finish the season.
The way I see it, Norm and Lowry gone frees up 45-50 minutes for our young guys.
Yeah so the schedule gets tougher.. that's not an answer.. what lottery spot do you think they'll get? And what's the trade? You are putting in a lot of work in this thread saying that you want to tank.. but I don't know what your striving for here.
I've seen enough basketball this season to know that if we swap Lowry and Norm for mediocre players and picks.. we're in that 10-14 range. Fred/OG/Siakam and Nurse is enough talent to win a bunch of games.
Definitely better than the Wizards, Timberwolves, Pistons, Kings and Bulls. That's just 5 teams. You can probably add Hornets, Thunder, and Magic to that list too. At that point we have the 9th pick.. woohoo
Either way you slice it.. this is a mediocre team. Need a few years to get really bad or we have to start trading some of our other win now players like Fred and OG. If you really want to tank that is.

Without Lowry and norm I think we’re in the kings, thunder, bulls, wizards category. I think the pistons and wolves runaway with the top 2.
Anywhere from 3-8.

Trade Lowry, Norm and Boucher and this team should be somewhere in the 4-8 range of lotto odds. The flattening of the odds means you have a better shot at getting a high pick without being downright awful. Late in the season start resting guys if you have to.

Trade Boucher because he's good? Or because you don't think we can get something for him in the off season? He's got a team option so really another year on his deal. I think we can get more for him in the off season than at the deadline.. besides he can't be traded until March 2nd.
Also I think bottom 4-8 isn't feasible with Nurse coaching. We play defense too well. I think Fred or OG would have to be traded as well. With a 72 game season.. would have to start some of these trades sooner than later as well.
A COVID outbreak between some of the top guys but not through the entire team would be another option. Have to have at least 8 guys playing to field a team.
I think these guys without Lowry and Norm and the players we get back for those two will lead us to about the 12th or 13th worst team in the league. Just out of the playoffs. Just my opinion of course.

planetmars wrote:Where do most people think the Raptors will land if they trade Lowry and say Norm? Like what do people think realistically will happen?
Are most here thinking they will be a bottom 3 team? Bottom 5? Bottom 7? Where is it that you think they'll be? Norm is basically a fungible player. Lowry might cost some wins.. but he might not.. the team rallies when he's not there.
I think they might make the playoffs as an 8th seed team. With an outside chance at the lottery.. but in the 10-14 range.
And I don't think that's a tank. That's the 7-11 range that people are ultimately dreading.
Like what's the "tank" strategy here? Should we trade Fred and Lowry? Fire Nurse? Siakam isn't playing great, so I assume you'd keep him. Or is he to be traded as well?
I think the word Tank is really ruining this discussion and outcome that most reasonable people here are talking about.
Raptors would never and can't "tank" there's a guranteed 4/5 teams that are better at that and will almost have no choice.
What trading Lowry and Powell does do is get you assets before you lose them for nothing. This team at best is the 6th seed and bounced in round 1. Trading those guys helps the chances of you missing the playoffs and ideally dropping low enough for 6-10 range. You have to understand too that once masai makes those trades things like siakam and fred "sitting" out with "injuries" are sure to happen at some point.
In my head I look at this whole season as a asterisk and wash. Masai screwed up with his signings and simply keeping Serge could have our record reversed. Just regroup at the draft and offseason and come back fresh in toronto next year.

Re: Tank World Order
On 2k I basically tanked. Got the 5th pick.
Traded with the Timberwolves for the 1st overall by giving them my 5th and Siakam.
Then I traded Fred and like 2 future firsts for the Number 4 pick from the Knicks. (most of those picks not ours but stuff I accumulated)
Ended up drafting Cade and Jalen Green.

I took on a bunch of bad contracts for future firsts from other teams. Hence All those washed up players on the roster.

Clowning people on a site literally called RealGM, it became popular due to a team building trade machine.

No **** , who would trade the 1st overall for Siakam. lol
Also even the knicks aren’t delusional enough to trade their lotto pick for Fred Trashfleet.

7 of those 11 teams had their own top 6 draft pick.
This is an asinine argument.
I said since the 1990 draft LMAO not since 1990.
You love twisting everything, eh?
"Twisting Everything"... Dude, you're a damn artist at making bad faith arguments that either lack context or use cherry-picked evidence...
Every champion in the 1990s was won by a player drafted in the lottery in the 1980s... The only exception is 1999 after SAS tanked due to D.Robinson's injury and were able to draft T.Duncan (#1) to add as a partner to their HOF Center...
Most lottery picks are chosen by bad teams and it takes a number of years before those teams can develop said player and build themselves into contenders... Expecting lottery picks on their rookies scale deals to come out and beat Hall of Fame players like Jordan, Hakeem, Ewing, Malone, Miller, etc is foolish-thinking. The year that Orlando was able to make the Finals in the 1990s when Jordan had retired was still considered a shock because of the age of their two phenoms in Shaq (#1) and Penny (#3), even though they had added to NBA All-Star & Champion H.Grant. Players that were drafted in the lottery in the 1990s, didn't start winning championships until the 2000s... The way you are utilizing your sample and forming your conclusions is disingenuous.

That was the off-season. lol
Kept Blake around for like a season. Traded Horford for idk what. Picked up filler guys to surround Cade and Green (James Johnson at small forward, Covington at power forward). Blake was our small ball center and we had Favors off the bench. TD was our sixth man. lol

Did you trade our 2022 pick to get Green?

I think I traded our 2022 and a 2024 pick swap because I had the Houston pick from a trade earlier.
It ended up working out because we barely missed the playoffs so the knicks got like the 13th pick or something. Houston was ass so I got another lottery pick (5th I believe). Drafted the bpa (point guard, was a sixth man for the team alongside with TD).
Cade and Jalen were carrying us for two years (Cade had like a mini Lebron stat line and Green was straight up carrying our offense). But then I had a lot of capspace open up by their third seasons. Ended up getting Echiuwa by trading that 2022 lottery player to Miami. And filled in the rest of the roster with the capspace.
Currently the best team in the east. Probably winning the championship soon.

Trade Boucher because I don't think his value will ever be higher to the Raptors. He is 28 and has a year left on his deal so I just don't see him part of the future. Could save dealing him until the off-season, but then you run the risk of him providing too much on court value to the team this year or he just falls off tanking his value.
Nurse is extremely adept at getting the most out of depth guys so you're right without immediate moves it's tough to see top 5 odds, but a big late season swoon could come up clutch.
