Btw friendly reminder that Saturday's game vs the Knicks is a 10:00am game

Very fine win but in 40 years of watching these games, I’ve seen a number of these games both for and
against for the other teams play down to their opponents. As Kermit Washington used to say, remember
there are millionaire players on each team and all these guys must have done something to earn their
money.

Spot on. Magic Johnson's quote from his first book is also apt:

Every college player was a star in high school. Every NBA player was a star in college.

There's exceptions to every rule, of course, but, by and large this holds true.

How long is Lillard out? An abdominal strain isn't always a minor thing. Gilbert Arenas was out over 2 months with an abdominal strain.

Elleby is already a much more well rounded player than Simons. He is a tremendous rebounder for his size and is much better on defense. It could simply be that CJ was playing better than Simons, who isnt really a plus unless he is hitting from deep.

I’m not gonna go there after 1 game. Simons is a much better shooter and ball handler, can play on or off the ball I don’t think I’m gonna overreact to one game from elleby. Also simons was on a minutes restriction because of his hamstring issue just an fyi

I dont disagree that Simons is a better shooter and ballhandler. But it doesnt take much to be a better defender and CJ certainly is. We have rebounding issues as well and he is really good there, shows in his college stats as well. He has a lot of poise for a rookie SRP, you cant quantify it but it really seems like the game is already slowed down for him which can take some young guys years, if ever. I think he has a lot of role player potential.

Yeah just need to see it more. Looks like a guy that just knows how to play. His first few minutes they played him this year I thought no chance he could be an nba player, looked slow footed and slow release on his jumper, he also turned the ball over just bringing the ball up the court. Last night he started a little shaky again but props to him for hanging in there and he played very impressive defense. Let’s hope he can keep it going while the band is getting healthy!

The announcers mentioned several times that Simons was on a minute restriction. I don't remember them saying why though.

Yeah... even "The Stache" (Adam Morrison for those of you who don't remember) had a good game here and there... overall he was terrible.

Glad CJE had a good game, glad the Blazers won, but CJE will likely be out of the league in 2 years.

This is a total misconception that I never understood. Morrison was a decent offensively his rookie season, averaging nearly 12ppg. Then he injured his knee and never recovered. He was a bust in the Greg Oden sense - not the Hasheem Thabeet sense.

Not really. Even his rookie year he was impressively bad.

11.8 PPG on 12.1 shots per game.
37 / 33 / 71 shooting splits
All Negative Advanced Stats (-0.03 WS48 / -2.7 OBPM / -2.4 DBPM / -1.8 VORP

He was on his way to being a Thabeet level bust. He just didnt have a game that translated.

Glad CJE had a good game, glad the Blazers won, but CJE will likely be out of the league in 2 years.

I wouldnt bet against a NO 2nd round pick. Based on his track record there, any player we take in R2 is likely to get a decent 2nd contract. I wont bet against NO getting R2 steals until his track record says otherwise.

His RPM was a big fat negative -2.81 and he was about as bad on the offensive side of the ball as he was on the defensive side of the ball. I would say my comparison was pretty spot on. Look, I hope the rook makes it... I don't wish failure on anyone.. but the odds are... long.

Stotts said Simons is on minutes restriction because of hamstring.

CJE is going to be around a longtime, even if he never improves his shooting. He is actually a good defender and high-level competitor. People talk about GTJ's defense and it's pure BS. I like Trent, he tries, but his defense is mostly ineffective. CJE defends and his defense yields results. Obviously, CJE needs to be tested more before we get too excited. CJE looks like a tough kid.

Or Simons was on a 20 minute restriction due to his thigh situation.

Stotts said 12-15 minute, but that was a few days ago.
