I will take 44 wins and would really take 86-87 mavs who won 55

The 1987-88 Mavs team wore green and took the Showtime Lakers to 7 games in the Western Conference Finals.

I might blame the white/gold city jerseys though.

1 Kristaps Porzingis Needs To Step Up

Kristaps Porzingis is the reason why Mavs was last season best offensive team..sure Luka can create his own offense but it open the flood gates for other guys and for luka to have that insane numbers

One thing that seems to be missing this season is Luka's lobs or alley oop passes (usually to Powell) off a screen and a quick cut to the basket. This rim runner would require the defense to hang back in the paint a bit in case someone cuts. This in turn leaves guys from the 3 point line wide open or with a second or two of daylight. The eye test tells me that once you have a missing component like that, defenses can lock you down instead. Man to man. And with their 3 point shot not falling as it should, this leads to difficulty pulling away or winning games. This team was best in offensive rating in league history last year. Something changed the dynamic.

It doesnt help now that Powell has a two inch vertical leap post achilles tear. This rim running component had them wanting Derrick Jones Jr included in that Kelly Olynyk botched trade with Miami last time. Derrick Jones Jr. can play way above the rim and Luka can just toss it in the vicinity of the hoop and he would be able to catch it. Luka used to make opposing big men look like fools back pedalling thinking who to guard. That's missing this year.

Seth's gravity (even as a role player) on offense was HUGE for this team last year

It's a team sport obviously, but if you take Luka from that team no way in hell they are the best offense ever. Team was built around Luka who is elite at playmaking and passing combined with elite driving and touch around the rim. Team is not build around KP.

KP is extremly important on defense (not good this season) and spacing on offense. His overall impact on winning is really big.

Good job on luka on making sure that thj stays hot and put ball on hit guy in brunson and did the best impact in the court by securing rebounds when lineup become small..

Have to update this. Things are better lately, but I am not convinced the main problems are gone.
If yes I will be the first one saying I was wrong.

Like wise if not, I will probably write something

Return to Dallas Mavericks
