76ers Continue To Seek Major Trade To Boost Title Odds

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Feb 22, 2021 1:14 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers pursued a trade for James Harden in January before he was eventually dealt to the Brooklyn Nets and sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer they continue to seek "major moves to increase its championship odds."

O'Connor mentions Kyle Lowry as a player to monitor. Lowry is in the final season of his current contract with the Toronto Raptors, is a native of Philadelphia and would give the 76ers a veteran perimeter shot-creator.

Daryl Morey has been consistent during his career of doing nearly everything possible to increase his team's title odds if they are amongst the handful of teams with a shot of winning it.

Morey is just looking to rob some stupid GM with a Ben+scraps package.

That's not "robbing" someone. Dude might frustrating as hell because he won't shoot, but he is still an All-NBA caliber player.

Wright just got hurt. But if he was healthy and the Pistons added Bey and a 1st, then I'd pull the trigger on that.

I'm not even a Simmons guy, but I wouldn't do this deal a month ago before Ben's great February. Sixers would become significantly worse.

Why would any Sixers fan want this?

Bey is the only one younger than 27~ the others are what they are at this point, and neither ever had star potential (neither were 5-star NCAA recruits and both non-lottery)

Grant has never even been a top-3 player on a winning team, so you're not even getting someone with #2 potential back for a top-15 to top-20 player leaguewide.

Awful deal.

Sixers dont have a whole of trade chips .

Lowry could may be had but they are probably out of market on Beal or Lavine if those players are even available. Guess you could trade Ben Simmons for either but Im not sure that accomplishes anything.

But they really need a small that can score and knock Danny Green to the bench.

No good Man. Ben Simmons is a top 20 player and 25 y.o.. If you trade Ben you a comparable player back in return. Not a couple role players.

Lowry and OG to Philly for Simmons is an interesting trade. Boosts Phillys’s title chances this year. Give Toronto a higher upside core moving forward.

lol. What is this fluff piece? Breaking News: "NBA executive hard at work trying to improve his team" I mean, you could write this article about 10 different NBA GMs. Talk about a shameless self-promotion puff article. Morey is the master of winning the press conference... but not titles, or heck, even NBA Finals appearances.

If only Morey can pull off a LaVine trade without giving up Ben
2023-2024 Philadelphia 76ers:

Lowry/Melton/Payne
Maxey/Hield/Downtin
Oubre/Batum/Council
Harris/Covington/Martin
Embiid/Reed/Bamba

Lowry+Powell+Boucher for Simmons + Green (salary) (and possibly 1st round picks)

Lowry, Powell and Bocher can all start for Philly with Harris and Embid. Simmons plays centre for Toronto, with Vanvleet, Green, OG, Sikkim. Only concern for Philly is if they can resign Lowry, Powell and Boucher as they are free agents.

You think Philly wants to trade a 24 year old emerging star in the prime of his career for half a season of 34 year old Kyle Lowry?

It's about fit. You have to admit a starting line-up of Lowry+Powell+Harris+Boucher+Embid has a better than your current line-up. Boucher has continued to grow and fits near nicely beside Embid. Powell as a starter has average over 20 ppg and he is known as playoff Powell when healthy. This also increases your depth, which I believe has been a problem. You're going to see Simmons regress as Embid improves. This is the best alternative. You are not getting Beal.

Having said all that, the concern would be, can you resign them? That's the risk. You probably have another couple of good year with Lowry and you would hope he resigns being from Philly. You have a good chance of signing the other two at a reasonable cost.

No way that trade is garbage.
