Dragic / Nunn
Duncan / Herro / Bradley
Butler / Strus
Porzingis / Okpala
Bam / Achiuwa

Why would the Mavs do that tho? If his value really is that low then they might as well keep him and eat the contract in the hopes that he gets healthy and recoups value.

They get a future pick or two from the Heat. See how valuable the 2021 Heat draft pick that OKC has now has become since it became unprotected. Plus they get out of KP's huge contract while Richardson may be off their salary next year as well.

How does the waiver claim works?

I’m not entirely sure tbh, but I believe if a player is released, they are on waivers for 48 hours where another team, that has cap room, a player exception, and a free roster spot, can claim that players contract/salary.

However if that player clears waivers, they are free to sign with any team of their choosing.

Like MWP has mentioned multiple times.

Perfect timing with the Cousins news, and we would not need to waive or cut anyone, Cousins would just simply replace Meyers with the exception.

And, his 3-point shot (never good) now is kind of flat-footed. Otherwise, he's a keeper. Passes the ball well, shoots well from the elbow.

Most advanced metrics suggest the opposite. His defensive #s are solid while his offensive #s are ugly, likely due to him shooting way too many 3s

Spoiler:
He'll probably end up with the Lakers anyway, but I'll stand by my statement.

Box Outs (another hustle stat. I see Bam. No Cousins)

Field goal differential: (opposing team % minus opposing team vs the player - reveals weak spots)

Cousins one of the worst.

Show me your numbers then.

Good post but I was looking at #s within the context of that Rockets team

The team offense drops considerably with Cousins on the floor taking so many 3s, but the defense improves. Their defensive rating is 109.3 with Cousins on the floor, which would be good for 5th in the NBA ahead of teams like the Sixers, Heat, Raptors, Bucks, etc. I think this is instructive particular to Cousins because he plays the most important defensive position in the game

Cousins is also still an elite defensive rebounder and I consider closing out defensive possessions to indeed be part of defense. His defensive rebound % is a whopping 34.1 (for reference, Andre Drummond's career DRB% is 33.4). And it's not like Cousins is stat-padding his rebound #s; the team is drastically better at defending their glass with him on the floor:

Team DRB% Cousins on: 80.0
Team DRB% Cousins off: 76.3

Beyond the team's rebounding and overall defense being better with Cousins on the floor, Cousins is individually:

1st on the team in defensive rating
1st on the team in defensive rebound %
1st on the team in defensive box +/- (I'm excluding Justin Patton who's played 21 mins this season)
Tied 1st on the team in defensive win shares (despite being 8th in total mins played)

No defensive metric is a catch-all, but at the end of the day if the Rockets can play like a top 5 defensive team with Cousins manning the paint, then I believe the Heat could play solid team defense with Cousins as well

You all looking at Cousins on how he fits with Bam and the starting lineup. I only care about Cousins on how he fits with the second unit of Nunn, Herro, Iggy and Precious. I do not think he is being brought here to replace Olynyk what so ever.

Incredible timing with the release of Cousins and getting exception approved. Puts us in driver’s seat money wise if Cousins wants to come here and we want him. Would have to release Silva.

From what reporters are saying the Heat do not need to cut anyone when granted the injury exception

I also think we should try to bring Beasley back. Maybe this time around he'll play like a top draft pick.

The Rockets were a good defensive team because of Christian Wood and John Wall. They created the defensive pressure on the team. Once Wood returns to the lineup, Houston should again improve.

I agree that rebounding is definitely a problem for the Heat, but I have never considered Cousins as an "elite defensive rebounder," nor have I ever seen him categorized that way. Rather he is usually the *only* rebounder on very bad teams, like, well, Hassan Whiteside, but not as good.

You should trust me on this. I watched many games with Cousins on the Kings (when I say many, I'm talking more than a hundred) and Cousins was never a feared matchup with any good offensive player. He is not a good one-on-one player on defense, which is why players can back him down (even with his size) and shoot over him. Rebounds only become important when the shot is missed, right?

;-)

I looked at the last 10 games Boogie played to see if there was considerable improve. Coming off his injury you got to expect improvement in his game as he gets in game shape. The last 10 he got consistent and considerable amt of mins

24.3 mins, 11.7 pts, 8.2 rbs, 2.1 ast, 42 fg%, 37 3pt% on 5.6 3pa

So there is a trend he is improving. Unlike Eddie Curry and Greg Oden, Boogie was a proven All-Star. Boogie is not a player who learning how to play, it's about getting him on par physically.
