Not surprised at all by Mitchell over Conley (heck, Mike probably prefers it), most of the selections look pretty solid to me. VanVleet is the big exclusion imo (LaVine), and would've notably preferred Turner over Vucevic (Young vs Beal and Grant vs Brown more minor preferences).
I bought a boat.

Harden turning Bruce Brown into a scoring weapon sure is something.

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
Surprised the NBA actually made the right decision with Chris Paul over Booker. I thought it would end up like 2017 when they picked DeAndre Jordan over Paul to represent the Clippers.
Also, the word "snub" gets thrown around so often it has lost its meaning. Every year, so many (twitter) fans cry about a dozen players being disrespected and snubbed from the All Star game. It's almost like everyone is a snub these days. Only clear All Stars who got robbed are snubs. Borderline All Stars who missed out to others around the same level are just honorable mentions.

Vucevic getting picked over Sabonis is a big surprise for me though, given how much better Indiana has played and the numbers Sabonis has put up.

How would people feel about expanding the size of the all-star teams from 12 to 14? Feels like there's more than enough "all-star quality" players to fill in the rosters and get more guys in the game

It's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. It'd actually make all-stars even less relevant if every borderline candidate made it.

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
I thought the players didn't want an all-star game and the fans usually cry every year about how it's boring and nobody plays defense...
So why are people concerned who gets to participate or not? They obviously don't value the event... Or is it a resume-building check mark for personal legacies?

Figured people may have seen it but in case, fun tool to play around w/ the schedule on. Shows how many home/road/B2B/rest advantage games each team has as well as travel, etc.

I've been for it for a while as the NBA has had the same number of all stars for 50+ years even though the league has expanded significantly. There are more all star caliber players than there are spots at this point, so there are legitimate snubs each year.

This was the shot before his game winner last night. I've watched this like half a dozen times and i'm just marveling at the shot creation. It's the epitome of making something out of nothing. Unreal.

I don't watch it any more but I still like to see deserving players rewarded by being selected.

I don't know if I've ever seen a non-center be better at finishing in traffic than Zion Williamson. He can have two guys hanging all over him and he'll still somehow get that thing up for a soft layup. Like how are you even supposed to guard him when multiple defenders can't stop him from finishing.

Couple potential reasons why not:
bonuses teams don't want to pay more of.
Already not enough minutes leading to some guys not wanting to bother if they are going to play 8 minutes while the bigger names play more than half the game.
I mean I'm cool with 15 a side, but tbh I don't really care at all and haven't for 30 years. I did think the captains was a cool touch and would be interested in a USA/International game because I think that would stir some competitive juices, but mostly this is for a different audience than me.

Think rosters started when there were fewer NBA teams, so expanding makes some sense I'd say. Mostly agree w/ Chuck that it's no big deal to me in terms of what it means, but in terms of league size it matches up.

Also, box scores aren't everything but just gonna leave this with no context:

Well I went from getting really frustrated over fan voting when I was younger because it was solely based on popularity and not merit, but I grew out of that and went to not caring at all. That's been fixed somewhat by the fan/media/players split now for starters voting anyway.
Don't care so much about the game itself (although last year was the first good game in a while, they actually tried). I just care about the recognition. People always love to make the argument "well who would you take off?" when suggesting there aren't real snubs, and that's the point: there just aren't enough spots. I prefer inclusion over exclusion. The cream of the crop rises to the top with All NBA selections.
If AS bonuses are an issue, owners should vote to remove them from contracts. I can't see that being a huge issue for teams with their star players though, save penny pinchers like the bulls. I'm obviously happy randle made the cut, but middleton is a great example. He's had an all star season in every sense of the word and yet misses the cut essentially due to luck of the draw. Also, for reserves who aren't locks every year, I do think it matters a lot to them regardless of how much they play in the actual game.

Amount of all star spots isn't a problem but they should re model it so it's not Eastern and Western selections. Just make it the best 24-30 guys in the league and we'll get more accurate selections in that alone.
Not to mention they don't even do east vs west in the actual game anymore lol.

OK because now I'm kind of looking at something and this was just funny. All seasons since BBR's shot finder is available, minimum FGA of 50, at least a 55% eFG. Sorted by the lowest percentage of FG assisted:

Re: 2020-21 NBA Season Discussion
Man Steph's defense has been on another level this year, especially considering his offensive load. Extremely active on and off the ball and he's clearly worked on his strength.
I think if his name wasn't Steph Curry, people would be talking about him as one of the better defensive PGs in the league, at least in the range of Lowry/Conley of a couple years ago.

Speaking of defense, seeing SImmons tonight guarding Doncic was a sight. Other than a few minutes to start the 3rd he was in jail, genuinely fun to watch him on defense.
