I don't see Detroit having any reason to move him though. He's their only bright spot this season and they have him for two more years at a bargain. I would gladly take on Griffin's deal if they put Grant on the table as well.
I think the real trade to make with Detroit is to take on Griffin's contract if they'll attach a first, a swap, or Saddiq Bey to get rid of him. Griffin's contract pushes the cap space from Otto's expiring back a year which can be used to match salary in a trade for any star player that might become available next season or this off-season.
Why would Detroit trade Griffin? Are they going to need cap space next summer? No, so his huge salary doesn't mean anything to them. If someone takes Griffin without them paying anything (like picks or young players) then they can trade him, but they are not giving anything of value and especially nothing that might harm their future. So to get Grant Bulls pretty much must give Williams to the other way and probably needs to add first pick with it. Lauri is RFA so his trade value right now is low. If someone gets him in a trade they must fight to sign him in the summer. It's much easier to wait until summer and try to sign him then. WCJ and Coby have some trade value to rebuilding teams, but not enough to get Grant.
