NBA All-Star Game Has Record Low Viewership But Better Than Anticipated Rating

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Mar 9, 2021 6:02 pm

The 2021 NBA All-Star Game was down 24 percent in ratings and 18 percent in viewership from 2020, making it the lowest rated and least-watched edition of the game.

But the All-Star Game ranks as the highest rated NBA telecast of the season and ranks as the most-watched non-football sportscast since the World Series.

The Finals, by comparison, were down 49 percent year-over-year.

The All-Star Game was the highest rated telecast of the night for adults between 18 and 34, even beating Oprah Winfrey's interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on CBS.

Tbh I don't get why NBA gets a bad rep for its rating. After all, aren't the NBA players one of the highest paid athletes out there? The revenue is still significantly better if you compare it to the size of the roster and venue. They get 5 players to play and max of 15 players per team. The closest comparison would be hockey and it's not even close. It's one of the most popular sports in the world. Nobody outside USA knows who Tom Brady is yet Kobe, MJ are the most recognizable names in the world. The only problem with NBA remains the amount of timeouts and foul calls. You get rid of that and it becomes a very fun game to watch.

All-Star weekend, in a normal year, is really just not that entertaining. The dunk contest has been dead for years. The skills challenge is uninspired and the actual All-Star game is a laugh.

The only competition that remains semi-competitive, IMO, is the 3-point contest.

Year after year the NBA touts the Allstar Weekend as being "for the fans". Not sure how they figure that when it's for the players. Across all sports, All Star games are not that entertaining for fans. Let the players have a break in the middle of the season and continue the tradition, but let's not make it about the fans.

You mean non football American fans know his name right? Cause I can guarantee you, outside US and Canada nobody has a clue who he is. Maybe he's known in Germany for marrying a model but I think that's even a stretch lol

Me too. I live in Germany too. Where are you located? Downtown? Nobody knows Tom Brady here. I asked my neighbors and they said das echt neit. Don't you agree?
