Lonzo would definitely be an upgrade for the team. His defense is much much better than Kemba's, then on the offensive end. Lonzo is becoming very good at moving off the ball and is a hell of a catch and shoot threat. He also is extremely smart with the ball and good at finding what is available to him. Now him creating in the half court is not his strength. But that is why he is a good fit with the Pels right now because the Pels have Zion and Ingram who both excel at creating in the half court. So Lonzo plugs in perfectly with them.
If the plan is to move forward with Tatum/Brown leading the offense, you cant ask for a better PG to pair up with them than Lonzo. But if Brown isnt a guy that can create for himself consistently in the half court, Lonzo isnt really going to help out there. That just isnt his strength at the moment. His strength in the half court is off ball movement, catch and shoot and smart with the ball when it is in his hands.
I agree with you about Lonzo, especially his defense.
I would trade Kemba, Grant Williams, and Carsen for Lonzo, Bledsoe, and Redick.
The problem with that though is what is the benefit from the Pels point of view?
The Pels have no issue with the offensive side of the ball, right around the start of February we saw a clear shift from a Lonzo/Bledsoe run offense to a Zion/Ingram led offense. 120.3 Offensive Rating since February 1st (Nets #1 with 120.7).
So Kemba is a funky fit with the Pels. Kemba holds the ball much longer than Lonzo and again Kemba just would mess up the Zion/Ingram thing the Pels have going on. Then defensively the Pels stink and replacing Lonzo with Kemba doesnt make any sense. So I really dont see much value from the Pels perspective when it comes to Kemba. That is just thinking about on the court and not bringing in his contract.
Then for the rest, Carsen is pretty much not needed for the Pels. They already got a NAW who was a top 20 pick last year and Kira who was a lotto pick this year as young guards on their bench. And I dont see them pairing Zion and Grant Williams together on the court, so not seeing huge value for Williams as well.
The benefit the Pels get with this is dumping Beldsoe's contract. But they would just be replacing it with a contract that is twice the size and for a year longer.
I think if there is any hope of using Kemba to try and get Lonzo (I dont think Lonzo is available anymore though), a 3rd team would need to be involved to take Kemba.
