I don’t think that’s a great comparison.

otto porter is UFA...if he commits to resign for 15-18 mil/yr i'd take him along with markkanen.
Orlando gets: Malik Beasley, Jake Layman.
Minnesota gets: Aaron Gordon.
Magic perspective: Beasley, who is 24, would give Orlando a long-term solution at shooting guard. He’s averaging 20.5 points per game and shooting 40.6 percent from 3 this season.
Best of all, he’s under contract at reasonable salaries of $14.5 million for next season, $15.6 million for 2022-23 and a $16.5 million team option for 2023-24.
Layman, 27, would be brought aboard primarily to make salaries match. He wouldn’t add much to the team, but at least he’d provide a bit of extra depth on the wing.
Since this trade has an unbalanced number of incoming and outgoing players, the Magic would have to waive a player to make room for Layman. The most likely candidate would be Gary Clark.
Would this deal be more palatable to Orlando with a pick thrown into the mix? Absolutely. If the Magic and Timberwolves are talking about a deal centered around Gordon and Beasley, the Magic would be smart to push for picks.
Still, this would be a good trade for Orlando because Beasley would give the team a starting shooting guard who can score.
Timberwolves perspective from Jon Krawczynski, Timberwolves beat writer: Beasley is currently serving a 12-game suspension connected to gun charges from last fall. If the Wolves have concerns about his reliability off the court, moving him now would be understandable.
They also have a wing-heavy roster and a major need for a starting power forward next to Karl-Anthony Towns. Gordon would be a good fit with his ability to guard multiple positions and his athleticism. Layman has been a decent piece for them but far from indispensable. If they could get a deal done without giving up a first-round pick, that would be a plus for the Wolves, who owe a pick to Golden State that will convey either this year or next.
But before he was suspended, Beasley had solidified himself as one of the best shooters in the league. On a team that struggles mightily to shoot it from outside, having a knockdown shooter like Beasley for Towns and Anthony Edwards to find makes an enormous difference. The production they get from him renders his contract (three years, $45 million with a team option for a fourth season) a plus. And behind the scenes, Beasley has been good for the Wolves this season. He is one of the team’s hardest workers and, so far, there appears to be no indication that the team is concerned about his conduct off the court for the long term.
I think the Wolves ultimately would say no, but it’s a deal that would have to at least get their strong consideration. I think there would be concerns about keeping Gordon in Minnesota for the long term and a desire to see what a fully healthy roster with Towns, Edwards, Beasley and D’Angelo Russell, who is due back from knee surgery in the next week or two, is capable of before any major decisions are made on core players.

Gordon has finally got his 3pt shot up to 40%, surprise, while trying to earn a trade and new deal, but on 4 3pt shots/g and averaging 15/7. Only 1yr left on deal.

That FT%...
Beasley is a SG avg 21/5

Beasley is producing this after getting his new team friendly contract which is less than what Gordon makes today.
Add a pick Orlando. Former draft expectations...forgetaboutit

I don’t even know why the media doesn’t come out and announce Minnesota is no longer in the running for Gordon. Barring a catastrophe that sidelines more than half of all NBA teams and the league still holding a playoffs for S&G our season is dead. Renting Gordon for one year when he has made it clear he doesn’t want to be here is beyond dumb, it’s insane. I wouldn’t even attach a pick to Rubio, much less Beasley. To be perfectly honest I wouldn’t even do Beasley for Gordon and a 1st unless Gordon signed the one year extension up front, and even then I would still probably want a pick swap (maybe 2024 or 2025) or something else of value in the future.

Aaron Gordon
The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Jared Weiss reported on Monday that Gordon has formally requested a trade from the Magic. The Celtics and Rockets were among several suitors for the athletic and defensively versatile power forward, but negotiations with the Rockets broke down when Gordon would not agree to a contract extension with Houston. Gordon’s current deal runs through next season, giving him some leverage in where he goes.
The Wolves had extensive talks with the Magic in late January and there was a belief that progress was being made on a potential deal, according to sources, but Gordon promptly injured his ankle and missed the next 15 games. The injury caused both sides to table discussions. By the time Gordon returned, the Wolves were 8-29 and not fitting Gordon’s desire to join a playoff team.
The Wolves could always roll the dice, trade for Gordon and hope that he would see that a pairing with Towns, Edwards and Russell would give him a chance to be on a playoff team … next season. But it would likely take Beasley and more to get him, and that appears unlikely at the moment.
