Denver down 6 in the 4th could be handy.

We'll work out our close game offense, it's good to have these types of games to be tested, everyone knows who we go to we need to look for Ayton with a lob when teams swarm Paul and Booker.

While I'm happy with the victory, our offense down the stretch can not simply be "let's run out the clock and let Paul and Booker alternate playing hero ball".

We had a 7 footer who was 9-12 in the game. I don't think he received a pass once in the 4th quarter.

Shooting efficiency? A lot of guys that just dunk or play inside..Gobert is the league's leading dunker so probably him. JV seems really high on efficiency. Capela usually is because he dunks a lot but was 4-16 the other day..can't see Ayton ever being like that.

I think most that are more efficient though cannot shoot that baseline midrange shot.

Embiid is surely more efficient, especially if you consider FTA and look at TS%.

Yeah...checked...Embiid 65% TS% and Ayton 63.7% TS%

He got switched onto VanVleet late and didn't post him up (likely because Monty drew the play to get Book the ball)

We made 5 shots in the final 15 minutes (7 and 8) vs Orlando and Toronto.

Actually Ayton is more efficient than JV, by a bit. Gobert is 65.6%

And Ayton is a lot more efficient than Capela.

So Ayton is up there nearly with the elite guys in Gobert and Embiid..and Gobert has very limited range.

And Jokic is right there with those guys at 65.1% TS%.

4 games clear in top 4 if New Orleans can hang on against Denver.

We just are not used to the ball flight path in Florida with all that humidity.

In situations like this, ideally, you have the team leaders (read: Paul, Booker, Monty) tell Ayton to post up and look for him. I don't think this is a case of Ayton not being aggressive enough - it seems like the Suns were deadset on having Paul and Booker go one on on down the stretch (like you said).

And again, even if it's a case of Ayton not being assertive, I'd like to see Paul and Booker direct him. Ayton on van Fleet is an automatic bucket. A bigger guy switching on Booker and Paul, not so much.

Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous, especially given the small ball lineup. I know they are great at midrange...but they were heavily guarded and even at their great 50 something % (worse late in games I think)....Ayton's efficiency is higher inside, even if guarded. And I don't think the timing would make him more nervous or anything unless it was maybe a game winner...he's had some nice scores before down the stretch.

I think that's an inexperienced team and perhaps staff just deferring to the players, but it's good to get the data and have a couple months to fine tune.

Exactly. Or, when the double comes (off Book), we have an open 3

I think Ayton has gotten really good at exploiting mismatches against smaller guys. He still struggles against stronger bigs, but the last 3 games have shown that if team decide to go small on him - he can really punish them for it.

This is the main thing that sets him apart from guys like Capela - who can really only exploit these kinds of mismatches via alley hoops or being spoonfed right underneath the basket, whereas Ayton just needs to be hit in the low post.

It's actually a huge development IMO - because of the trend of teams going small at times and Ayton is nimble enough to stay with them defensively while also big and skilled enough to punish them on the other end of the floor. If in the coming years he can develop to the point where he can start use his quickness to take advantage of slower guys like JV then he'll really be a force on offence.

Nice win. Any win on the road against a tough team like the Raptors is good.

Too bad NOLA is choking against Denver.

Zion against a top 5 team in west has 39 points on 16/19 shooting. He's a mini shaq in the makings.

That's what I thought he'd average this year 20/10 might have to wait one more season.

Return to Phoenix Suns
