Welcome Mason Jones

Signed to a two way.

I don't know who this guy is so I'll blatantly rip Negrodamus's post from the other thread

Looks good.

It's says he's only 6-5. Unless Morey plans on waiving someone, don't we have enough wing players? We really need depth at the 4-5 spots.

Outside of Paul Reed, there wasn't a single player drafted outside of the top 40, that was better than Mason Jones.

I'm totally confused at how it's possible that Houston waived this player from that roster. I thought he would immediately get picked up by another team. He didn't, then Houston re-signed him to a 10 day and I thought he was still with them.

Without knowing all of the players on the Rockets roster, I find it hard to believe Houston doesn't have a spot for him, at least as a 2-way. He's a better basketball player than Kenyon Martin Jr. I do know that.

Damn we got Mason Jones? F Yea! Wanted this guy due to the sheer absurdity of his numbers alone.

I bet Morey tried to get him post draft and has been keeping an eye on him ever since, ala Hinkie w/RoCo back in the day.

What's a good player comparison for him?

Looks like a worthy addition as a two way player. Developmental prospect worth working with. I would have liked another PG as our last two way (it seemed destined that BBall Paul would be converted), but he looks like a potential future bench piece. I really like the cheap, cost controlled bench, and maybe a starter or two, that Morey has been building since his arrival.

Last year I heard Mason Jones was 300 lbs in Highschool. If that's true, and he's worked his way down to 200 in 3 years, maybe he has another gear as he continues to transform his body.

Oh it's *that* guy. Yeah I've heard of him before today then.

Has that Luka/FVV type of calm and poised shotcreating ability. Hope he's here to stay throughout the offseason

Very interesting, with him and Joe we have the complete team for the Hogs from last year.....and believe me they were the whole team.

In the NBA, the upside for Mason would probably be Shake IMO, although Mason is more ready for contact than Shake was coming into the league. Mason has obviously extended his range since college, plays hard, so he should fit right in. Happy to see us looking at Arkansas, as with Mussselman as the coach now, they should be putting out more NBA talent than in the recent past.

When I watched Arkansas to learn what kind of player Joe was, Mason Jones was the standout, the leader and the most funny player to watch on the field.

Non sure he'll be an NBA player, but it's nice to give him a look. Too bad the G-League season is over.

Tangibly, he could be another iteration of Shake Milton except with even more advanced handle and shotcreating abilities. The skills are there. I just hope he can mirror Shake's work ethic and desire to be very good. Then we'll have a player, for sure.

Dude is skilled. He just got to keep working on his body and become a better decision maker.

He's one of those players who is irrationally confident. That's good most times, but sometimes that effects in-game decision making.

Yea, I’m not sure if he’ll really do much this year, but I think he’ll be in that Shake mold as he gets more comfortable with this level. He’s currently a sub 70% FT shooter (was +80% on volume in his two years at Ark) which probably indicates he’s not really acclimated yet.

Once he gets his body right, starts nailing shots, and gets foul calls, he’ll be a great bench option.

To be honest, if I'm him I'd prefer to be on the Rox roster not on the sixers'one.

We have a pretty good track record of giving opportunities to two-way/G-League guys, even in recent years (Pelle, Shake, Bolden, Christian Wood, Paul Reed etc). Our lack of creators should give him some optimism.

Perhaps this can be a RoCo part 2.
