It’s not really illegal. There’s no rules saying he’s done anything illegal
But think about it on our perspective now. Do you like watching our team playing against subpar level NBA talent?
Speaking from my experience. For instance when we recently faced the Lakers without AD and Bron in the last game, I stopped watching midway the third quarter.
One, there’s a clear mismatch in talent.
Two, these multi millionaire athletes ain’t going to risk any injuries, if they dont think they have a chance. You’d mostly see them competing in the first half then pretty much raise the white flag somewhere in the third quarter.
Imagine if you have all lottery teams fielding G League players and you have an increasing population of G League caliber players. You have a number of unwatchable games. You also would create an inequality in talent among teams where the mediocre talent guys will not be signed by NBA teams because in the grand scheme of things the value of Gleague caliber players is more valuable than a mediocre NBA player.
TV views will go down. Mediocre talent will be shipped overseas while Gleague talent will increase. Overall income will also go down.
You have to look at it from a bigger perspective, not just from our POV.
NBA has an ecosystem and you can’t mess up it’s balance.
You have to make sure everyone is paid by meritocracy. And you have to produce a good show every game.
This is also why you see teams playing harder and tries hard not to rest their best players on national TV games where it’s value is just a single win not different from a non national TV game against a worst team in the league.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.
