Ok now I see what they saw in him. He looked a little Jaylen Brown-ish out there last night.
Like that looked like a legit #4 draft pick out there.
I hope they leave him be with that mid-range game and don't try to make him a 3 point bomber.

As Duck said, the issue is about constantly being engaged and aggressive. The issue to me is that where he is on the offense, he can constantly take his foot off the gas. Being the safety value in the offense is part of the play, but it can mean literally stand at the 3pt line and stay there. He seems reserved to just do that.
To tell you the truth, Pat has looked different the last two games since Vuce arrived. He just had a poor game against the Spurs but it wasn't because he wasn't aggressive. He just had bad turnovers. But I think you would agree, 7 shots in 19 mins for Pat would be considered a lot compared to what we normally see.
I want to see how he responds again for the next game. If he is still getting the touches and continues to be active. If he does again, hopefully its him finally taking that next step in his development.
Exactly on what you, and Duck are saying. I can live with some bad results. I can't live w/him not trying to impact the game on offense (esp. when struggling on defense). You'd obviously want a faster release from 3 (something to work on in the offseason), but otherwise he already has most of the tools to take advantage of teams loading up on Zach/Vuc.

I think that Pat looks great tonight. He looks proactive and plays to his current arsenal of moves. His defensive potential is enormous.
He looks like an excellent rookie who has yet to have the keys to the ship on any team, hence why he can’t take over.
Worst case, he’s an excellent two-way cog in our wheel. He looks a lot more poised than a rookie should, which is always a good sign. He’s smart and is helping our team flow, unlike Coby and Thad tonight.

I think one of the biggest issues with Pat right now, is that sometimes he seems not to know when to fit in, or to be assertive, which isn't out of the norm, when you consider that he is a teenager playing with much older adults and more established players. But it's also up to him to make that mental hurdle and ignore all of that and play aggressive all the time, he is too talented to hold back.
Why so serious?

I would leave it be for this season, but he needs to work on that in the off-season. 20 foot 2s are the worst shot in NBA basketball. The free throw line mid-range shots are fine.

Damn. I was with him until "rely on his floater more."

As floaters go it’s nice. But we see plenty of it as it is.

Two solid games in a row. He may be breaking out here. He needs to be more aggressive and assertive on this team.

You are floater critic number three. Things are getting serious. I am going to go to nba.com and watch every floater and calculate his conversion rate.
And if it’s good, boy are you gonna hear about it!

Honestly he just needs to mix it up. Sometimes take the three. Sometimes attack and search out contact. Sometimes the midrange or the floater. He’s a three level guy and learning to mix it - in real-time among fellow elite athletes - is Patrick’s challenge.

We’ll see. It sometimes feels like it’s gonna happen. And then he rips the ball away like Lucy.
But I still just look at the tools and drool. And I appear to be one of the only fans who sees star upside. Which makes me think sometimes I’m not being objective.

I see star upside. He's tall, strong, quick, with hops, has a good shot, can dribble some, and seems to have the right mindset. There's nothing preventing him from becoming an All Star. But every year, several guys with roughly similar athleticism and talents get drafted, and most of them never hit their potential ceilings. So ... I watch and wait.
But sure, you could end up being correct. Without question.

Pat has oodles of potential with his skillset and physical attributes, but his success will be predicated on work ethic. Also, as I learned from Lauri, luck (opportunity and health) will play a role as well getting good training advice.

I didn’t want to draft him. Despite that I’m now convinced he has the type of rare physical/skill formula to be a true franchise player. Perhaps not in the top 5 like the super freaks, but in the top 15 like the “normal freaks.”
I wonder if I’m subconsciously working overtime to convince myself.

I would have said Yes before seeing last night's block. That I confess impressed me.
