Our country is getting hammered by the new variants. Please say a quick prayer for us.

My two brothers were hit just recently, thankfully they're on their way to recovery.

Just this morning though, I heard news about one of my former work colleagues and good friend succumb to Covid-19 after acquiring it a few days ago. :(

I get my first injection on April 1st.

Still not open to the general public here in Canada. Makes no sense that only such a small % of our population has received a single dose 1 year into this pandemic.

I read that the percentage of people who are dead set against being vaccinated is around 20% (both in the U.S. and Canada). There is, however, a sizable percentage of the population that was undecided a few months ago but is leaning towards getting the shot these days.

Thought I heard or read 40%.
Hope you are correct rather than me.

I was looking for you this AM to translate Fournier’s interview in the Fournier thread - but Steef jumped on it right after I posted it. Good stuff.

Here's an update on the hesitancy in Canada, per data in today's newspaper:
Seventy-eight per cent of respondents said they intend to get vaccinated, continuing a slow but steady upward trend since last October, when 63 per cent planned to get immunized.

Update in America.

Getting much much better.
Still way up there in certain subgroups - African Americans, White Evangelicals, Republicans

I saw this yesterday.

It is the fourth ‘in the community’ confirmation of the excellent 90-95% efficacy observed in the Phase 3, EUA-enabling, Pfizer clinical trial. The other confirmatory studies were conducted in Israel, in the UK & by the CDC.

A sub-cohort infected by the potentially vaccine resistant South African variant did very well also.
If this is replicated, it is **** AWESOME! That is one of my major concerns.

In the meantime, the more transmissible UK variant is surging all over America.
We must continue to mass VAX & MITIGATE.
Many states are opening up MUCH TOO SOON!

Well the vaccination rate in the U.S. is up to over 3M per day. That's good news.

- You would hope the vaccine last more than 6 months. That seems to be setting the bar extremely low. I guess we'll see. Even once every 5 years like Tetanus (lol at the spelling) wouldn't be so bad.

- I said to someone the other day... necessity breeds innovation, I wonder what comes out of the covid times. I was hoping for the cure to the common cold but **** curing HIV would be amazing! Among other things I think Covid is really pushing e-commerce forward and hurting brick and mortar retail stores. I found it very interesting when I learned that pre-covid about 85% of all retail was still in person with e-commerce taking 15%. During covid times those numbers changed to around 75% and 25%.

- I originally opened this thread to post this vaccination tracker. Per the link 32% of Americans have received one dose and 17% are fully vaccinated. Numbers in MA are 38% and 20% respectively.

Our rollout in Australia is extremely slow (but I think given the current state of the country that seems to be OK, for now)

The problem is that we committed to a large supply of the AstraZeneca vaccine....

We will have a lot of people refuse to get vaccinated because of that one (other option is Pfizer)

Also, we have a large population of anti-Vaxxers.

My point was in response to that article. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade so sorry if it came off as that. I know we all need some good news and a reason to be hopeful. Myself included. I'm just saying celebrating that the vaccine lasts for 6 months is like celebrating that we held Philly to 106 points last night.

Oops, sorry, I thought you were not aware of those news so I was just sharing the article.

The last part of your post made me LOL.

The Mrs and I finally got ours Tuesday, Pfizer.

No symptoms, just a really sore arm.

Don't be a clown, get vaccinated.

First or second? I get my second April 19th. Morderna though. Wifey got the Pfizer and said the second was worse, but not crippling.
