What are the Knicks getting out of playing Payton?

1. CAA Perks?
2. Thibs lulling the opposing team to a false sense of security?

9 wins in a row apparently

all part of thibs master plan to lure opponents into a false sense of security

edit: I just read the thread title and didn't even read your "false sense of security" take when I typed mine but yeah that's it

Payton is using the American Disability Act to hold on to his job.

I just finished watching a replay of the game. He’s an atrocious player, and that’s being nice.

Rose and IQ are not strong defenders so ELfrid is our best defensive PG

Except he's the worst defender in the starting 5, BY A LOT.

How many times he's fallen asleep off the ball? Or keeps getting swallowed by picks? Also, his turnovers and bricks at the rim is easy points for the opposition.

Get him off the team.

You're frustrated now?

Wait til playoff Payton is spotting an elite team 10pts every 1st and 3rd quarter.

He makes a few nice floaters and makes a couple of decent passes here and there, but he's not worth putting out there based on the inconsistent shooting and mistakes he makes on the court.

If we started Frank I'm very confident we'd get more. He's a defensive hound, moves the ball, and can knock down 3s.

Imagine if we get Lowry in the summer? Or had signed VanVleet? Both would fit in with this roster seamlesly.
My lifetime better have a Knicks championship.

If Frank didn’t have 40-year-old virgin energy 90% of the time he gets a shot to make something happen with the ball he might have held onto the job at some point.

But even with that history it’s probably time to try something else, especially if defense is what’s keeping Elf starting. At least Frank spaces the floor.

Last I checked Rose was number 3 in defensive ratings amongst all guards in the NBA. This was according to nba.com advanced stats site.

Payton's defense really is overrated. His overall BBIQ is so low that it negates anything good he rarely does on the defensive end.

Same agent as Randle. Randle could come back on a discount. Also doesn’t want Payton to make the bench a negative. That’s all I could think of.

Just stoppin' by to +1 any and all anti-Elf posts. It's nothing personal but he couldn't get off this team fast enough.

he gets to the rim better than anyone on the team and has the size Thibs likes on D.

he also misses too many of those shots at the rim and is late on D since he's moping about because he can't shoot.

honestly, at this point, i think it's more Thibs trying to not disrupt things than anything else. he doesn't finish any games, so he clearly can't be that important. i can't see how he's back next year ... at least not as a starter.
