If I'm understanding the playoff system correctly, as it stands now, we'd play the pacers, who are at 9. Then, the winner of that game would play the loser of MIami (7)/Charlotte (8). If we beat both the Pacers and Miami/Charlotte, then we'd get the Nets in the first round.

I think our goal should be to get to the regular season 8 seed. Then, at least, we could have some say in who we play in the first round (either the regular season 1 or 2 seed). The 9/10 seeds can only play the 1 seed, again, if I understand the system. The underlying goal would be to avoid the Nets!

Wizards have a shot if KD & Harden aren't playing lol.

Yeah, I'm not any more worried about the Nets than I am the Sixers. Both are way better than us, but both are flawed and can be beaten.

It very well could be the play-in team getting an upset win, in the first round. I think 6th seed might have the toughest match-up if it remains the Bucks at third.

Glancing at remaining schedule of the current 8-12 seeds
8 CHA may face easiest schedule
9 IND also moderately easy
10 WAS moderately difficult
11 CHI pretty hard
12 TOR brutal

This leads me to think he best we can hope for is maybe to move to 9th.
CHA is 4 ahead in loss column
TOR has championship experience but the schedule....
CHI, don’t see it their regular overtaking us.

All that said, still lots of possibilities.

PS this was a very seat of the pants analysis not to be confused
with a more serious detailed look.

Only a game behind the Pacers at 9 now, and 2 games behind Charlotte for 8. We play Charlotte on May 16 in the last game of the regular season. We also have the Pacers two more times on the schedule.

Should be a fun next couple of weeks. After the start to the season we had, I'll take it!

If all goes perfectly, we could be in 8th place by Monday evening  (I’m not a jinx) Also hello everyone. Haven’t been here since 2019. 2020 has already been blocked out of my memory

It would be awesome for the guys if we clawed our way to the 8th seed, the downside is probably a new Brooks contract

Any extension of Brooks would be a huge mistake and a sign of a mediocre organization…which we probably are…

Let’s hope for the pipe dream of Masai coming here as otherwise I fear Tommy may extend Scotty if we succeed in the play in tournament.

It's kind of amazing, isn't it?

Especially that our fate might be in our own hands: if we win those 3 games you mention, it seems pretty likely we'll be at #8.
Breaking News: In a shocking development, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has sold the NBA franchise to a consortium of participants in a discussion board devoted to the team on realgm.com. Details to follow....

Brogdon hurt his hamstring, no idea how serious it is but that's a huge loss for them.

I dont see it. I think this surge saved Tommy as its clear he made good decisions with Wall/Russ, Brown/Gafford, Neto, Len, Lopez, Deni, etc... But Brooks still doesnt look good.

Make the playoffs and be competitive with BRK for 6/7 games, Draft Springer/Giddey/Butler at 15 (REALLY hoping for Springer), Run it back next year

Only a game and a half out of 8th now.

But - out of Charlotte's next ten games, they catch a bunch of tanking teams. They have Detroit twice, the Bulls once, and the Magic once. Pelicans maybe too, by the time Charlotte plays them.

Not looking too promising for the 8 seed, but you never know.

With that cheese schedule it’s more likely Charlotte will grab 7th and the heat will be the team we’ll be gunning for

With 9 games left on the schedule for the Wizards, Chicago, and Toronto, the Wizards currently have 3 more wins than both of those two. The magic number is 7 wins to ensure a play-in spot (10th in the standings) in the play-offs.

I think the Wizards game with Toronto will have huge ramifications for the play-in seeding. I think the Wizards need to at least get splits with Indiana and Atlanta. Looking at the schedule, I think the Wizards are going to need some help in the loss column of the other teams.

Question: If we are 9th or 10th are we still in the lottery? How does that work?

I haven't seen a definitive answer on that.
