And it was about a basketball player and this is a basketball forum. So anyone with the same name as anyone bad can't be talked about? It's not like this place is buzzing with chatter at the moment.

People are getting way to sensitive these last few years.

My reaction to it was what in the hell did it have to do with the Boston Celtics and why was it on the Celtics board? And while I'm at it, why does everything CHL posts revolve around race? Locking that thread made a good deal of sense imo.

I don't even know what I'm smoking right now lol. Every month or so I buy a bag from a (girl)friend of mine, whatever she has on hand, mainly because I am not fussy about weed and the girl is cute.

Anyone watch that show Them on Amazon? Rare case of a show that was well made, well acted, and supremely memorable... but I would still strongly recommend not watching it lol. A few scenes (one in particular) that are burned in my mind for all of eternity and not in good way. Just an extremely difficult watch.

The irony is that the basketball David Duke is black.

I didn’t lock it, but CHL’s shtick is tired, and they aren’t very funny anymore.

Sure. I never really thought they were funny, but does everything have to be funny? Seems like he didn't break any rules. If anyone else had posted something saying "hey check out this player, do we want him on the team next year? Also weird name huh?" it wouldn't have been locked.

The irony is you have a poster as someone else said is always posting about "race" and you've decided to discriminate against him. I doon't know if I'm saying it right. Maybe he was hoping for someone to say something racist given the name, but no one did.

Whatever I'm probably wrong. The mods are the real heros here protecting us from the racism of discussing a basketball player.

1000/1 a black guy didn't lock that thread. Just saying.

Anyways I guess we have to lock this thread too. If we want to have a discussion about race we should head over to Starbucks circa 2015.

Agreed. Never found it funny to begin with, and it is worse now.

The mods are here to enforce the rules but also to make this a welcoming place. Freedom of expression is key, but it takes a backseat to the freedom to not feel threatened or discriminated against. The David Duke "joke" may be cool or funny to you, but not to others. A little empathy goes a long way.

CHL's thread is still there for anybody to read it, so your claim of discrimination against him is BS. Also, not sure why you brought your concerns to this thread. You've had a long life here (two lives to be exact, maybe even more), so by now you already know that you should've contacted a mod instead. Unless, of course, your goal was to stir **** up, not to defend CHL's freedom of expression.

There is a basketball player literally named David Duke. You should just accept that. His parents were so daft that they named him after a **** grand wizard.

For all you Aussies out there and foodies. This guy is hilarious. Don't watch around children. But I've made some of his recipes and they were great. Not this one. This is him proving to nuke the microwave.

For those that have a PS5 and are up for a challenge - get Returnal. The game is soooo good but yet so tough. I still haven’t passed the first biome. It is harder than Demon’s Souls, at least IMHO

Has any of the cinephiles here tried The Criterion Channel? Other than the price vis-a-vis other streaming platforms, it looks almost too good to be true. Why doesn't anyone ever talk about it? Any opinions/experiences?

EDIT: If you have a membership card from a participating library, you get access to The Criterion Channel (via Kanopy) for free. I'm getting my library card done tomorrow.

I once had access to the Criterion collection via a trial of Hulu. For a few days it was cool, watched some really good movies...but then I struggled to find anything worthwhile to watch (and keep watching or otherwise enjoy). Artsy doesn't always mean good, or entertaining...ofc that's all subjective...

Anyways Kanopy offers a lot of good foreign movies in addition to Criterion films. It's free and commercial free. Def go that route.

I watched the 1st few episodes of Jupiter's Legacy on Netflix last night. It's a new superhero show but with the twist of the superheroes' kids trying to live up to their parents. There's a secondary plot that gives a ton of backstory on the family from 100 years ago, and I'm not yet sure all that is necessary. But I like the premise and the actual superhero parts and would recommend checking it out.

If you didn't watch Invincible on amazon Prime you're only hurting yourself. Absolutely fascinating show. Brilliant voice acting. JK Simmons is as always, brilliant in everything he does.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

I'm loving this. I don't mind the backstory. Every hero needs an origin story.

Yeah that 2nd plot I mentioned actually becomes more of the primary plot as the season goes on. I just didn't get the point at first but it ends up revealing how they got their superpowers. Good and fun show, I think. I have a buddy who said he couldn't get through even the first episode because the acting was so bad, but I didn't think that at all. My buddy gets a stick up his butt sometimes haha.
