No need to rush things. Solidify ourselves next season by signing RFAs that could grow with us like Lonzo / Trent / Horton-Tucker and wait for the right 3rd star to fit with RJ & Julius' timeline, then by next summer hopefully the right move will be available.

2021-2022
Lonzo | D. Rose | Butler
Bullock | Quickley | Frank
Barrett | Burks | Williams
Randle | Toppin | Murphy
Robinson | Noel | Gibson

2022-2023
(sign Lavine)
Lonzo | Butler

(trade Butler/IQ + picks for Sexton)
Sexton | Bulter/IQ

I don't care what this mushmouth f*ck says about football. I could really care less what his opinion is on basketball. Of which he's no more qualified to talk about than any single poster on here, by the way.

I sideways alluded to this approach in the JVG thread, but this perfectly articulates the move where Lonzo is that iterative piece for a year.

I have to disagree with you there. Most of us haven't suffered nearly as much brain damage in our teens & 20s, so we still have the capacity to think about what we're going to say before speaking.

Yep. JVG has a point as we absolutely need to bolster ourselves for next season...teams will expect us, we've been surprisingly healthy this year, development isn't linear (aka kids can regress before taking the next step forward), and you never know who will have a down-shooting year...and we don't want to lock ourselves into this squad without trying to add a 3rd star, but this summer will still be too soon for that big swing. Another year of building a competitive core and positioning ourselves to make that big move would leave us in a great position to pounce next summer...whether it's for one of the elite young stars or one of those plan-B's.

And if we pulled it off, we'd be ready to open a nice long window: Julius established as a superstar, RJ in year 4 starting to enter his prime, Lonzo & Mitch in their primes, Obi & IQ entering year 3, and any rookies we nab this year having had the chance to get blooded in so we could find out which ones will be ready to contribute in 22-23 and which ones still need to redshirt behind a vet.

Besart always rushes things. LOL. This looks like a long term plan -- need to check with Leon so see if we're doing long term plans now. I know he wants to win now, but does he want a dynasty?

It's not as black & white as win-now or tank-n-rebuild. Judging by their moves so far, this FO might just understand that.

But, hey, we're living in the present and future looks bright! 8-) And kudos to Rose for continuing to work hard on his game. I love the way he's playing right now.

i share joy in the present with you, my brother. you just using your rose colored glasses to look for flowers in the past that ain't there. even rose says he was all wrong in NY the first time and sees this as an opportunity to redeem his reputation (based on his play and behavior).

“Rose-colorered glasses”

If Rose says he wasn’t right, then he wasn’t right. But we’d still see occasional flashes of his talent. Wasn’t he still working his back from an injury when we signed him?

yes. and to be fair, he was playing the role that was asked of him in that bizarre roster.

He mentions Rapaport - from what I read he had Rapaport on as a 'Knicks fan' and Rap mentioned winning a chip.

Rap defected, so his thoughts as a Knick fan are worthless.

And Sharp is upset because the Knicks are keeping up with the Lakers as far as W-L.

I like that NYK makes all these dopes so mad, though.
