Murphy is ridiculous with his pitch framing. He's moving his glove like 6-12 inches consistently to bring balls to the middle of the plate. Obviously it's good enough to fool this umpire, but from the mound perspective it's over the top absurd.

Damn, Teoscar laid off some teo-kryptonite offspeed pitches that AB. Very encouraging stuff.

He has somehow transformed himself from one of the highest-K players in MLB as of a few years ago into someone who strikes out less than 72% of MLB hitters.

Baseball, as always? Weird.

I wonder if that decrease in iso power may be more related to the new ball?

I’ve been a Grichuk hater in the past, but he deserves credit for how he’s playing this year.

Tabby explaining how the strike zone has been consistent and how "there's no arguing there" all the while Kemp is arguing...

Never like Tabby's commentary, and today it nails on a chalkboard bad. Hopefully Tabby gets some load management soon and we can enjoy Dan and Buck for a while.

Think it's approach/swing related, though I can't really put a finger on what has changed. His iso dropped last year from career norms, alongside a pretty dramatic decrease in K rate. He has then backed that up with another large decrease in K rate, with another decline in his iso.

There have been a bunch of hitters who had mid-career transformations going in the other direction, emphasizing pull power and launch angle at the expense of dingers, but Randy's the only one I can think of to go in the opposite direction. It's still early, and he's as streaky of a hitter as exists in MLB, but he's been our second-best hitter to date by being a far different player than the one we acquired.

Jansen's OPS has increased by over 100 points in the last five days. It would still be a middling OBP.

Buck said it best - If I had moved my glove that much after a pitch in my day the umpire would have smacked me in the back of the head.

That's what you get Kemp for throwing ice onto the field - moron.

McGuire really appreciated that yank from Semien.

Semien 9/17 against his old team this series.

And you know the bottom 2 hitters in the lineup are really bad when 2/10 seems like a major victory.

He's carrying an expected batting average of .165, which is just extraordinarily bad. Pop-ups and soft grounders just aren't a recipe for hits.

I can't prove it, but I think a big part of Jansen's poor performance this year has been his pitch recognition. To my eye, he's swinging at (and making soft contact on) a lot of borderline strikes. He's been decently patient, but it seems everything he puts in play is fringy strike zone material... contributing to his weak contact.
