Mavs clinch 5th if Lakers win out. We get the tiebreaker on a three way but not a two way vs the Blazers. The only way for 6th:
Mavs Lose, Blazers win, and Lakers lose at least one.

Luka has the same impact as Russell Westbrook and his triple doubles. It looks good on the boxscore but doesn't impact the game much as a blowout win.

Mavericks would competing with Houston for last place without Luka.

Toronto outsmart the Mavs nearly the whole game. Yes, jumpers are falling early. But things doesn't look promising after all.
1. No Rim Protection in paint
2. Do or Die with 3 pointers, despite streaky shooting performance
3. Cannot contend quicker guard. This results in a lot of layup attempts.
4. No Answer when teams targeting Luka on the defensive end; Luka looks tired with poor decision-making (ill-advised long ball, cannot hit paint shots in normal way, turnover prone). This team is too reliant on Luka.
5. Roster construction. No countable 2nd playmaker. No reliable shooter. Not much countable 2-way defender. Cannot play the same tempo as a unit.
6. RC gets outcoach yet again. To me, if Luka doesn't look well, the coach has to insert Boban inside-out or Burke pick-n-roll to diversify the offense. RC did it last playoff. But it is totally forgotten by tonight.
7. Still cannot develop rookies; rely on rookies self-development a lot.
8. Injury concern. With Maxi out, the Mavs lack of resistent in paint is explosed.

It is 2 DFS lucky 3 pointers and J-Rich FTs to contribute to the win. That being said, the Mavs wins by luck despite underperforming.

No impact means 5th place in the West with second star resting 40% of the season?

It was strange game, Toronto totally relax and Dallas with must win game, very nervous. It's kinda funny listening to all this overreaction on the night, where Mavs made playoffs and have big chances to be 5th. All 4 teams in front of them have much better roster. If anything Mavs overperformed.

Yeah, that was hilarious. I still remember people who were talking about where our pick would have fallen in the lottery lol

Btw we'll finish the season with a better record than the 4th seed in the east, not bad for a team led by a hugely overrated player who can't impact the game.

Should've made the Knicks pick top 23 protected...

You can't reason with people. Some think this team is a championship team. If they had a healthy January this team would have been fighting for top3 spot probably and yet we have posters who say Luka does not have an impact. I mean, Mavs severly overperformed given how many problems they had with injuries and COVID.

My concerns are the playoffs now. Luka looks like he is completely exhausted because he had to shoulder so much during the season. But with KP being back, i would expect KP to pick up his game and play like an all star because he is way more fresh than anyone else.

With bubble form KP, I don't think they're contenders, but this team is much better, KP's regression defensively is very disappointing.
With KP's defense, low availability and the COVID episode, this team definitely overachieved.
They should sit Luka for the last one, a week rest should bring him back fresh.

If that's the case, then trade him now.

Seriously, without him Dallas is a lottery team. **** ungrateful.

Lottery is an understatement, W/O him Dallas doesn't crack the 20 wins.

He's KP's fan, angry on Luka. Funny thing is that with average healthy and impactful max. player Mavs would have been easily 3rd in the West. So yes, KP is a big problem.

Yeah agreed. I really, really hope KP can go into the playoffs with high confidence and power :D Looks like Mavs will be playing LAC again and a healthy KP could be huge for the Mavs. But like i said, Doncic looks way worse in shape than he did in the bubble. So that's a huge question mark for me.

He is? Lol.

I have nothing against KP. I don't go to every thread asking for a trade. Clearly Luka is exhausted. So, this win against Toronto while securing a play off spot is huge and will give them enough time to rest.

Yes he is out of shape this season and should be held accountable but the WHOLE season Luka had to carry the load. And trying to diminish his impact is hilarious.

Luka's game is totally positively correlated with how he's shooting 3s. He didn't look exhausted against Pelicans, where 3s were falling. Teams are defending his drives much better this year, so 3s are essential for him. Mavs can beat everyone in playoffs, if Luka shoots good for 3. 1 week rest should have positive effect too and there won't be 5 games in a week anymore.
