That's actually pretty impressive given that we're doing it with backup centers and a trio of forwards (Hachimura, Avdija, Mathews) who each have played less than 82 games in their respective careers.

The problem isn't defense. It's offense. In that same stretch, the Wizards are posting an ORtg of 108.1, which ranks 24th in the league. Why is our offense so bad when we play a bunch of guys (Beal, Westbrook, Bertans, Mathews, Hachimura) who are considered good offense/bad defense players?

Probably has a lot to do with a poor 3P% (lot of it attributable to Bertans's struggles) and FT% (Russ)

Yep, since 2/3 (17 games) they have the 9th best defense in the league.

10-7 in that stretch (should be 11-6 with a win over Boston). That’s 50% of the season at a 42 win pace in a 72 game season with a top 10 defense.

The on/off numbers in that stretch are insane:

1. Lopez 8.3
2. Neto 7.2
3. Bonga 6.9 (limited minutes)
4. Bertans 6.3
5. Wagner 4.2
6. Avdija -0.8

So the bench has been really good in that stretch. The defensive rating is 9 points better when Lopez is on the court. Actually turning out to be a great signing by Sheppard.

If anything, at the deadline, they need some offensive help and some rebounding help. The biggest weak spot on the roster, according to the numbers, are the 30 minutes a night going to Rui Hachimura.

The player who's defense I think has been overlooked is Bertans. He's been doing a great jop of double-teaming opposing stars while still getting back to his man on time. In the past, he'd often fail getting back to his man in time, but he seems to have fresher legs now and gotten in better shape.

Fully agree. Bertans is a decent defender. Wiz defensive rating is only 1.4 points higher when he is on the court in that stretch. Compare that to a player that we pretend is some on ball stopper, Rui, the defensive rating is 7.5 points higher. Bertans also has a 68.9% TS in his last 15 games. Shooting 45% from 3.

Bertans was money well spent IMO. Once he got his legs under him, he’s been a huge plus.

I’ve said this before, but the wiz would be much better if they just started Bertans and gave most of Rui’s minutes to the better prospect in Bonga. *ducks*

Listening to this guy in the postgame presser was torture. He has NO clue. For my 1000th post, I wish that we fire him in the offseason.

Two games left in his tenure.

I was watching the game on tape. I started fast forwarding after halftime when I saw he trotted out the midget lineup again. Glad I spared myself the misery.

Doesn't his contract expire at the end of this season?

Without a stretch 5 to pull Embiid from the basket, it's a RIP.

Absolutely! Only... why wait until the offseason? Be real -- fire him now.

Congrats on hitting 1,000 btw. I wonder how many more posts there will be on this Board before Brooks is fired!
Breaking News: In a shocking development, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has sold the NBA franchise to a consortium of participants in a discussion board devoted to the team on realgm.com. Details to follow....

I quit watching in the first half of game 1 and haven’t watched since. I know it will make me far too angry to see Brooks absolutely hinder the team.

Can’t wait to add a draft pick and a new coach to this fun group.

Scott Brooks, meanwhile, expressed his desire to remain with the team.

Russell Westbrook agreed that Brooks should return next season.

"I don't see why Scott should go anywhere.
Not just because we're close but he's done a hell of a job with our team, with our program since I've been here and just [being] around our team and our coaching staff, just understanding how important his impact was to this organization and when I got here I was able to see it firsthand."

We’re talking about the guy that traded the face of the franchise for Russell Westbrook.

There were plenty of comments from Beal about being really excited to “run it back” with Wall, prior to the season.

There is simply no way they give another contract to the absolute worst coach in the NBA. The guy went to the 2nd round one time in 5 years. The guy has a losing record with the Wiz.

If Westbrook or Beal can’t get behind the correct decision, then move them also. Gotta do the right thing.

When, as a player, you don’t know what the future holds for the coach, you say nice things. So yah, I can understand Westbrook saying all that. He isn’t going to say “time to get a new coach” to the media.
