Lol i was just gonna post how funny it would be if Brett turns out to be their coach.
But knowing stevens, he wouldnt hire Brett. Stevens knows Brett is only for rebuilding teams and he saw it first hand going up against him twice in the playoffs

Oh how I wish Dame would just request a trade already. Loyal to a fault. Portland has been the same exact team the last 3-4 years.
2023-2024 Philadelphia 76ers:
Lowry/Melton/Payne
Maxey/Hield/Downtin
Oubre/Batum/Council
Harris/Covington/Martin
Embiid/Reed/Bamba

Re: Around the League: Playoffs and beyond!
The whole "fire Brad Stevens" thing started off as a joke from a place of fear as a division rival.
But then it became gradually revealed that he's just a terrible coach maybe they SHOULD fire him.
He's a terrible leader and really bad offensive coach. He's basically a glorified defensive coordinator.
I just wish Brad was able to take the Hoosiers job that he obviously wanted.

Danny has spent all their capital so he hit the road. Stevens knows they can't win the east and takes an office job.
Who say that coming 4 years ago.

Re: Around the League: Playoffs and beyond!
Didnt Bill Simmons once hypothesize that Stevens had something like a top 20 trade value in the league? Might have been Jackie McMullin

Kemba being a damaged good and losing Hayward costed Ainge his job. Prior to that, I thought they had a nice team.

That, together with pretty mediocre to bad drafting the last couple of years

I give him some credit on drafting Tatum but luck played a large part with that Ainge’s good feel about a guy’s work ethic. Old school type scouting. Jaylen Brown also falls into this category, i mean Jaylen had horrible analytic numbers coming out of college but Jaylen seems like a smart hard working guy. While we know how shady Fultz background is.
Aside from that, its mostly misses IMO.

Re: Around the League: Playoffs and beyond!
It's far more important to nail high lotto picks than waste mid-teens picks so the Brown and Tatum picks far outweigh Ainge's misses, especially because neither of those were consensus picks nor did they pass on a true star to take either.
I think another reason all those other first rounders failed was because they had a deep roster most of these years (until this one) and none of those guys could get minutes on a contender. We have seemed to manage to do it the last few years with the likes of Shamet, Thybulle, and Maxey but that's in part because we have a weird roster that hasn't ever been that deep and has had acute rotational needs.
Stevens may be good in a personnel capacity and Mike Zarren is still there. They have a good team but it might just be a better than average treadmill team for the foreseeable future.

Don't hoard all of those picks then?
He had a great run for a while but it just seemed like he got caught flatfooted too much the last few years.

See how it didn't make much sense to label Devin Booker a career loser at age 21? Was the best player on the court in the series against the Lakers and took out LeBron in round 1.
