Wiggins or Siakam

Post#1 » by ILOVEIT » Thu Jun 3, 2021 12:08 am

Grant on the Warriors insiders has a H.O. for bringing in Pascal Siakam. He's like "versatile defender...great slasher...and if he get's his 3 point % up to 38% "Like Wiggins" he'd be great! :banghead: Probably have to give up Wiggins and draft picks but....

So...hmmm...6'8" guy....versatile defender....maybe shoots 38-40%....great slasher.
WE FRICKEN ALREADY HAVE HIM!!!!!

Question: Who is better (more valuable) to the Warriors: Wiggins or Siakam?

EDIT- adding 2021 main stats here:
From 2021

PS - 22pts, 7 rbs, 4 assists - 45% from 2 and 29% from 3 (prior year shot 35% from 3)
AW - 18 pts, 5 rbs, 2 assists - 47% from 2 and 38% from 3

My gut says yes but honestly I have barely seen Pascal play in a year. How's he looking these days?

2015 Stephen Curry 10.8 (75.1% TS)
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7 (55.1% TS)
1998 Michael Jordan 10.6 (50.6% TS)

If I have to pay, Wiggins easy.

Siakam is paid more than most superstars and more years than Wiggins.

So if I have to pay... Wiggins by a light year.

I like Wiggins, but I'd say Siakam is the much better player. However:
1) I know Siakam backslid this year, but I didn't get to watch him much, so I have no idea why/how, or how much to worry about it
2) I'm pretty sure we'd need to pay on top of Wiggins to get him, and what else we had to pay would be a big determinant

I mean, can Siakim play the 3?

Wiggins, like Klay, seems fine not being THE man with a team. I'm not sure Siakam fits that model.

If playing his best Siakam makes sense I think, but it's not near the slam dunk it looked like it would be 2 years ago.

Whoever trades for Siakam will be doing Toronto a favor. Boucher is already poised to take Siakam's spot for a fraction of the cost. Who would you rather have...Siakam for 3 years / $105 million or Boucher for 1 year / $7 million?

One on one it's Siakam, though not by much.

Siakam would have to play the 3 here, and I don't know if this is the right spot for him.

Plus, to get him you'd have to pay anything extra, which isn't necessarily enticing for me.

Simply stay put with Wiggins, I think.

I like siakam, but not in place of wiggins (plus another asset, because siakam for wiggins straight up is not in the realm of possibilities).
He's not a 3, he's a 4, so he would make sense only in place of draymond (plus, again, another asset becuase, again, siakam for green straight up is not in the realm of possibilities).

I like the closing lineup of:
Steph, Poole, Klay, Siakam, Dray more than:

Steph, Klay, Wiggins, Poole/JTA, Dray

So for that reason, I’d be in favor of making that swap. BUT, I would not want to give up much value cause I have some doubts about any lineup where we have Siakam at SF.

Wouldn't it be nice if Nunn and Boucher were still on the Warriors?

The NBA needs to expand rosters. Every team could have 5 2-way slots and it would be better for everybody.

"A first round pick" is super general and really makes a huge difference here.

The MIN 1st? No
The GS 2021 1st? Maybe
Future 1st? Probably

Per 36 and Per 100 stats make it look even closer.

What surprised me is that Wiggins is younger than Siakam.

Counting stats is a horrible way to evaluate a player. Fans from a team that featured Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette should know this..

Only thing about Siakam is we would have Green, Siakam, and Paschall who all play power forward. Who plays small forward? Does Green or Siakam move to center? I don’t think Siakam can play small forward. Wiggins can guard 1-4. I don’t think Siakam has the hip wiggle to chase two guards off screens or get low enough to guard point guards.

I am cool with Wiggins taking the tough perimeter assignment, he’s got great conditioning, he’s young, fast, athletic. Thompson now taking the second best perimeter guy or wing, and Curry taking the lesser of the perimeter players.

Im not a huge fan of bringing Siakam in TBH but positionless basketball works in every way.. if we did swap Wiggins for Siakam, we could make it work.

I'd also argue against the idea that Wiggins can competently guard 4s. Also against the idea that Siakam isnt as versatile - he's a damned impressive defender.

But my issue is more that it doesnt really address any weaknesses we have, while likely costing more additional capital to make the trade. Assuming we werent making any other big deals (meaning this happens right before the start of next season), I'd entertain the idea of Wiggins for Siakam for a future 1st, but I really doubt TOR wants to make that happen. They had to deal with DeRozan already, and then trade for Wiggins a couple years later? Cant see Masai doing that.

we have 3 issues. toughness(rebounding), playmaking, shootings
does Siakam address these issues? he is a better rebounder but thats pretty much it. we have to look at what we are missing and go for the right pieces
