Since you don't seem to get it, bad jokes are literally saying "I don't care enough about these people and their experience, so I will use their trauma for some cheap laughs, because they aren't really human and their experiences don't really matter.... to me". And you have the audacity to defend yourself.

Its a bully tactic, dehumanizing them plain and simple. Honestly the more I think on your behavior here the angrier I get.

and just where do you think that 'leak' came from? Dame supposedly talked directly to Paul Allen, who supposedly wanted to fire Stotts; and talked PA out of it. But Dame didn't leak that and neither did PA. So who did leak it, if it's true? Whose ass is covered if Dame takes the blame for Stotts being the coach when things turns to shiz. Obviously, the person whose ass is covered is the same person who hired Stotts 9 years ago and fired him yesterday

Sinobas wrote: Now he's near 30 and realizes Stotts isn't the guy, and he is trying to strong arm the team into Kidd, who has had a mediocre at best career. Why? He just wants someone who will be his buddy? What does Kidd bring to the table exactly?

for one thing, I would not call a tweet by Chris Haynes Dame "strong-arming" anybody. We don't even know how accurate that is or how big an endorsement Dame gave Kidd. We know they have had a relationship for years considering they are both from Oakland

I love Dame, but he is not the GM. And as usual, it seems people are quite willing to blame Dame for Olshey failing to do his job as GM

*******************************************************************

I'm really not sure who would be the best coach of Portland; if it comes down to Billups vs Kidd I'd be firmly in favor of Billups. But I have to believe there are better candidates out there.

I'd hope the Blazers practice due diligence and prioritize Dame's sentiments, whatever they truly are, below the needs of the team

I don't have any confidence in any decision Olshey makes though. And as long as he's in charge, I think the new coach will be saddled with the same intractable problems Stotts was saddled with

Honestly I would be super disappointed with either. Stotts was flawed but still quite a good coach. After 9 years I totally understand the need for a change although I was less on the "call for his head" side of things - Olshey should have been the first domino to drop, and let the new GM figure out what to do with Stotts/CJ.

But I just don't think Kidd/Billups are better in the direction that Stotts was flawed, they don't bring to the table what this team needs. To quote a recent politician "nothing will fundamentally change"

blazers need a head coach thats good with xs and os, im not really sure another "terry stotts" type head coach would be a good solution and i really hope blazers make that their priority

I think humor can be a way to heal from uncomfortable things. It's a valuable tool for making our world better by finding joy in difficulties, and by making difficult subjects more easy to talk about. Obviously though if humor is poorly executed it doesn't serve that purpose.

And on the subject of the coaches, I haven't seen anyone mention here what Billups had been accused of. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/2000/01/13/two-former-celtics-settle-lawsuit-in-rape-case/9c07ef60-f73f-4a65-a7d7-1c99ef0ba384/?utm_term=.e080ce0888c6

It looks like this was over 20 years ago so who knows how Billups' character has been since then.

I wish I knew more about high level coaching to say what qualities exactly are needed, but unfortunately I don't. Maybe Billups or Kidd have what we need and I'm ignorant. I think Stott's was pretty good at X's and O's - at least offensively, we would often run complex plays - but he also allowed too much of the "baller" mentality of allowing heat checks, one on one's and other types of plays that really aren't coached situations. And I believe that comes from Damian and his sway within the team, as Damian likes to play that way. And they are human, they have to be allowed creativity at their craft, I don't want to take away all of that, but I feel Stott's lost the ability to put the clamps on it.

And I fear whatever coach comes "Damian approved" will just exacerbate this issue. We need someone with the persona and mandate to push back and improve our discipline one both ends of the court. I'm sure you will like this take but we could literally take away half or more of those low-IQ plays and run them through Nurkic, he is turnover prone (which you need experience to correct!) but some of our best ball-movement comes when he touches the ball.

I believe Olshey saved his job by offering Jody some sort of vision for the future. I really hope Olshey comes through. I will try to remain optimistic, but hearing Dame come out publicly for a hire really concerns me. It's the kind of thing that could get anyone fired in a normal work environment.

I also hope we are trying to better than the sexy name candidates like Kidd, Chauncy and VanGundy. Celtics seem to really have an interest in Becky Hammon, and I do too. I admittedly have no clue who would be the best choice would be, but my dream ticket as of this morning might be:

Becky Hammon / Ime Udoka / Juwan Howard

Let's :spam: on an elite coaching staff, and if Dame doesn't get his way.... too bad.

It can be, but not when directed at the victim. That is punching down. If anyone doesn't understand why *who* you are making fun of in that situation is important then I'm not sure there is much left to say.

Players don't normally go on the record of a particular coach they want. Dame going public indicates it's going beyond....I think Dame is like hire someone I want or else.....maybe he's lost faith in Olshey as well and is like you're only going to chose from a list of candidates I approve.

Why wouldn't Lillard lose faith in Olshey? Surely he is mature enough to recognize flim-flam and blarney.

All good things must come to an end.-Some British poet.

In 2012, when I was hired as the Trail Blazers’ Head Coach, I could not have imagined the incredible ride this coaching journey would take. The extraordinary opportunity to be the Head Coach of the Blazers for the last nine years has been such an honor and privilege. It certainly has been far more than a “good thing”, and now it has come to an end.

There are SO many people to thank:

First and foremost, to the late Paul Allen and to Neil Olshey for giving me the opportunity to once again be an NBA Head Coach and for their partnership. Also, to Jody Allen for her trust and ongoing stewardship of this exceptional franchise.

Obviously, a special thank you must go to the Damian Lillard. These last nine years would not have been possible for me if it were not for the talent, leadership, and trust of Damian Lillard, a true MVP. I am immensely proud of the culture Neil, Damian and I created with the Blazers.

THANK YOU RIP CITY fans! You are incredibly special and unique. The passion and love you have for your Blazers are second to none. Every season, your support and overwhelming enthusiasm made Moda Center the most difficult arena for opponents and the best home court advantage in the NBA. I know of no more loyal fans than those of Blazer Nation. I cherished it and never took it for granted.

To the Players: Without a doubt, the NBA is a player’s league, and it is a team sport. So, thank you to the 71 talented players who played for us these past 9 seasons. I have many fond memories of each team and every player.

To my coaching staffs: I loved my coaching staffs through the years and thank them for their tireless work ethic, passion, and excellence. But mostly, I thank them for their friendship and humor. They made the work enjoyable, even when times were difficult. I often told them that our coaches’ meetings were the best part of my day.

To all the Blazer support staff, thank you! To everyone at the Practice Facility, Health and Performance, Basketball Operations, Media Relations, Social Media, and Blazers Broadcasting. They all do their jobs with such excellence and it was my honor working with them. A special thank you to our Athletic Trainer and Sommelier Geoff Clark, and my right-hand assistant Beth Hancock. Additionally, thank you to Chris McGowan and all the Blazers Business Operations at Moda Center.

Being the Head Coach of the Trail Blazers has been a life changing experience. There have been so many special memories that my wife, Jan, and I will always cherish; memories involving wonderful people and lasting friendships. We thoroughly enjoy living in Portland and all that Oregon has to offer. We are proud to call Portland home.

Thank you RIP CITY. Stay safe and be well

The good times and memories will last forever.

Keep Portland Weird.

T. Stotts (41-41)
N. McMillan (48-34)
M. Cheeks (49-33)
M. Dunleavy (35-15)
P. Carlesimo (44-38)
R. Adelman (59-23)
M. Schuler (49-33)
J. Ramsay (45-37)
L. Wilkens (37-45)
J. McCloskey (21-61)
R. Todd (29-53)

all those coaches, good, bad, or in between, and none of them, to my recollection, ever carried the baggage of domestic abuse or rape settlement, before or after they coached Portland. I really don't see a reason to alter that standard this time out.

lol can you imagine the outcry in portland over this as well? And it’d be totally warranted in this case, kids look up to these guys so they at least better have a very good explanation if they do get hired (ie false charges for money etc etc.) otherwise this city is gonna constantly be all over either one of them. Hopefully we look elsewhere, don’t know why joerger hasn’t been mentioned.

What a classy guy. I'll miss him as a person, but not quite so much as a coach.

For our next coach, we need someone who will carry weight in the locker room, as well as being an upgrade on X's and O's.
We will never have a championship caliber defense while starting Dame and CJ at guard. Either ship one of them out, or make CJ a 6th man, so we have a defensive answer against the other team's starting five.
Could a first year coach like Billups or Hammond command such respect? I doubt it.

regardless of our opinions of stotts as a coach he was very likeable and one of the biggest class act coaches we’ve ever had. Stotts the person i loved as a fan. His interviews were super entertaining and will be missed and he seemed to be constantly positive & that was addicting as a fan. I genuinely wish him well and hope he does well for another team. Was the right time for a change maybe for both parties, but it was a pleasure to have such a class act coach here for 9 years
