Rudy just had poor shot IQ and never really grew out of that. He got to the Spurs way too late in his career IMO. Pop would have done wonders for him as a young guy.

Tobias Harris is a good comp as well. Knox may be more athletic than Tobias though but Harris really improved a lot since he's gotten in the league. If Knox can have the same improvement curve with better athleticism he could be a real force for us

Welp...If you were wondering this improvement did not happen

LOL. The problem with Knox is that he has no confidence, drive or intensity. If you don't have that it doesn't matter how talented you are.

I can even read in my tone from back then that I was more hopeful than optimistic. I wanted a few other guys over him, but I somewhat understood chasing the sky with what Knox could have been even if i disagreed with the pick. But he just doesn't seem to have the edge or work ethic like an RJ, for example, to ever really be more than what he is...

I think the context of that draft sometimes gets lost in the discussion of him. The Knicks knew they weren't going to have Porzingis for most of that year so I think part of the calculus was they decided to swing for the fences and take on a more raw project knowing they were going to tank anyway and try to convince KD and Kyrie to come. I think if Porzingis is projected to be healthy, they wouldn't have taken Knox or would have moved the pick.

Also Fizdale being a fresh face and new coach really wanted him and I guess they figured they might as well appease him by giving him the guy they wanted since he was in store for a rough season. Turned out to be disastrous in so many more ways than just that 1 pick lol.

Oh well so far the new regime seems to be better at spotting talent in the draft.

I really wanted Sexton that year and he went ahead of us by one spot smh

I used to like Knox in high school but I didn’t want him after I saw him play in college. Then we picked him and I was like well at least he has upside so maybe it works out for us. Too bad he never had the drive to get better.

I was hoping the pre draft projections of Trae Young falling to use were correct… then I was so sure we’d snatch Michael Porter Jr with the quickness when he slithered his way pass the Bulls.. :(

Way before the draft, I was really against Knox, because I heard he was awful on D. But near the draft, I got excited about his ceiling (good shooter and agile for a big dude) thanks to this board.

I was also against drafting Mikal because I thought he would be only a 3&D player.

I was rooting for Trae to drop. I also would accept MPJr, Sexton, WCJ, or even Bamba. I remind I was curious about Lonnie Walker.

I fear drafting MPJr after the medicals reports. I was too traumatized after Stat, KP and our injury players' history.

I would never have thought about such a thing could happen. Our opinions are so reasoned. Almost professional. It must be a one-time thing for sure.

I had Mikal / Trae / MPJ as my 3. I was wondering why since he went so early, but maybe like you said there was mocks showing him dropping to us.

Knox should continue to get stronger, especially in the lower body. He can get his 3pt % to 40% and if he can get decent on the defensive end, he still has a 20 min bench player role in him IMO, but at the PF position. I wonder what the Knicks dev team can do with him this off-season. I'm hopeful. This season his three goals should be: 1) shoot close to 40% on 3's 2) play with poise and stop forcing the action--instead, hustle no the fast break and cut to the basket--stick to strengths 3) get more competent on defense.

I remember being so excited when the Knicks drafted Knox. I literally jumped up for joy cause I thought he would be great. He has been such a major disappointment but I still believe he belongs in the league and at best he'll become Trevor Ariza just not with NY.

I had both Mikal and Miles ahead of him. Mikal and Mitchell would've done wonders for us.
