He's the modernized Dikembe Mutombo of the NBA.

I think the NFL is better suited to display dominance in a single field better than any other sport, it's full of elite specialists, rather than versatility demanded of other sports.

Nah, Donald can play any position on the line where as Gobert can struggle vs small lineups. Donald is much more versatile

Hard to compare. Donald, at 6’1” 280-285, is smaller than the average DT but much quicker, whereas Gobert is one of the tallest men in the league. What Donald does against linemen that outweigh him by 25-55 pounds is amazing. As good as Rudy is, I’ve seen him have issues in some games against players willing to put the body on him. I give a small edge to Donald , but both are incredibly effective defenders worthy of their awards.

guards get rudy on the switch and he has to perform, despite that not being his strength. donald doesnt have to defend wide recievers 1 on 1. Give rudy his props, he deserves

Gobert is really good but I've never seen him terrorize an offense the way Donald has in some games. Other than triple teaming him, there's really no solution to stop him from blowing up an offensive game plan.

I think that is a solid comparison, so voted yes.

Aaron Donald has a solid case to be the GOAT linemen in terms of all around play. Gobert is not a top 10 defender of all time, and nowhere near GOAT level.

Every single snap Aaron Donald plays, it basically puts the defense at a disadvantage regardless of the team or scheme. You have to double team a tackle. Gobert does not have that impact.

Front seven feel like man defense in the NBA
I would compare team defense and paint protection like pass protection and free safety. Strong safety if you have a physical attitude.
But yea I guess. Donald felt like prime defensive Kawhi. Rudy feels like the LOB but singular.

No, Aaron Donald is way ahead of what Gobert is. AD is on his way to being one of the best players of all time, especially for lineman.

I'd say no because I can think of a few players that are comparable to Gobert on defense. At least in the sense that the Jazz wouldn't really suffer if he was replaced by someone else. Embiid, Draymond, maybe Giannis....a healthy Anthony Davis is also a complete menace at the 5

Who's replacing Aaron Donald? There's no interior lineman that comes close to his production

I disagree with your take on Gobert. Name ten defenders better?

The fact that basketball reference gives Gobert only a 6% chance of making the HOF should summarize the gap between these guys https://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/hof_prob.html
