Just how hot is Rick Carlisle's seat?

Post#1 » by MrGoat » Thu Jun 10, 2021 3:43 pm

Since 2011 the Mavs are now 0-6 in first round series, most recently gagging away a 2-0 lead by blowing three games at home. You don't seem to hear much talk about a hot seat for Rick Carlisle so I ask the question

I misread the last word in my brain and wondered if I'd stumbled onto a new sub forum.

It shouldn't be that hot. The roster turned out to be relatively garbage other than Luka and that isn't Rick's fault. I think he's gotten a lot out of players like THJr.

Shouldn't we just ask Luka Doncic this question?

That guy has more say (all the say) in Carlisle's future. At least for right now, if Doncic wants Carlisle to stay, he stays. If he wants him out, he's out.

You can't just bag on a coach for being "0-6 in the first round since 2011" without acknowledging his team wasn't favored to win those first round series and his good coaching was a big part of making the playoffs in the first place.

Give Carslisle the same roster as other playoff teams, and replace Luka with their star player (LeBron, Booker, Mitchell, Kawhi, KD, Giannis, Jimmy, etc etc) and they're making WCF at least.

It would certainly be an interesting situation if Luka demanded that. Generally I agree the superstar wins but Cuban believes in hiring the best people and letting them do their jobs. Mavs organization has had minimal turnover in his tenure and the only major basketball operations person he's ever gotten rid of was Avery Johnson and that's because Avery simply stopped listening to anyone else in the organization.

This was never tested before because Dirk isn't that guy. I don't know if Luka will be or not but considering Rick has let Luka do literally whatever he wants offensively I'd be surprised if Luka wanted to rush him out.

When were they suppoed to win, yall need to chill. The only reason to get rid of him is because hes a hardass and nobody wants to go play for him. Thats fair.

ive been to a rick carslie coaching clinic, I see why some guys wouldnt want to sign there.

He’s a decent coach. You could do a lot worse but you could also do better. I’d be very surprised if he didn’t get at least one more go at it, but if he doesn’t get a let least a conference finals run next year I could see the team moving on from him.

Donnie Nelson needs to go before Carlisle. This is a GM/roster issue, not a coaching issue

RC is not the problem, him dragging this team to 6 and 7 games against the Clips was overacheivement.
People may do Monday morning quarterbacking on game 3 collapse or insisting on zone against 3pt specialist, but he I doubt any coach would've fared better.
The management though should have a long look in the mirror, their draft, trades and FA signings the last 3 years have been a questionable to say the least.

they also won 3 road games?
Carlisle is a good coach, his team wasn't great (outside Luka) and they have managed top 5 offenses for the past several years.

The hot seat should be for the GM first over Rick.

so winning 5 games in two rounds against the Kawhi Clippers and 3 games against the future champions Spurs means nothing?? He also lost to the future finalists OKC. (either with an old Dirk and meh roster or a young Doncic and meh roster)
What the heck are we talking about here?
