Re: Pippen Writing Memoir, Tells His Side of Story
End of the day, I'll always be a Pippen fan. Grew up watching him play and loved his game. What he's saying and doing now a days has it's reasons. Mostly money related it seems. I also don't agree with the Durant needing to be more like Lebron thing, he had two other superstars that weren't available in a normal capacity. I highly doubt Lebron beats the Bucks in that same situation. But it's a respectful take. The Phil thing kinda hits us all by surprise tho. I kind of want to know more about the Phil claims. I know he's said and done things in the past other posters have already mentioned that are quite cringe. I would venture to guess Phil isn't racist but there are some prejudices that could be perceived a different way if he hadn't won so many championships. I think I will buy the book, lol.

MJPipRose wrote:There could be some bit of racism that went on. But you can't imply the shot being given to Kukoc has anything to do with that. Two different things. I did take some truth from that interview with Patrick and left everything else with a grain of salt. The talking into the cameras bit made sense. Who really drew up the Steve Kerr play? How did that really naturally come about? We saw ghe conversation on camera and sure it could've been rehearsed. What's the real story then though? I don't know how much Scottie will be willing to disclose and until then we have to go with what we know.
How in the hell does that (the talking into the camera accusation) make sense? So, it was rehearsed and MJ was talking to the cameras but it was only for show for the cameras and that was not supposed to happen, but somehow it happened exactly like MJ said it should right into the cameras? It makes no sense at all what Scottie was saying. We all saw and heard Michael look right at Steve Kerr and tells him "if they're coming off you.. be ready" meaning that if the double came from him, he would be open and the ball was coming to him. Although MJ was covering his mouth with his Gatorade cup and it sure looked like he was trying to cover his mouth so nobody could read his lips or hear him.... Kerr replied... "If he comes off... I'll be ready". Then Michael drew the double and Kerr was open and Michael passed the ball to him and the rest is history. What an amazing turn of events that it just so happened to work out just the way Michael said it would even though he didn't really mean it and was just doing it for the cameras. What?
Scottie is full of S*** .... the only thing Scottie was truthful about was that the play was drawn up for Michael. But what Michael said to Kerr and what happened was real. Please... that was rehearsed? So, they knew that that situation would arise in that game and had planned to make that exchange right before a last second play in a Finals game? PLEASE.

I think my biggest beef with Pippen is how he just is always the victim it seems.
The whole contract dispute and him bad mouthing the Bulls after always rubbed me wrong. Reinsdorf (who is a prick) very clearly told Scottie to not sign it. He told him what would happen and Scottie ignored him, then turned it on him and blamed Jerry. Now you can blame Jerry for a lot but that wasn't one of the things. Because of him not listening to advice, he literally screws his teammates, delays surgery and misses the beginning of the season. Fine, after that though Jerry gives him a sign and trade to get him paid, which was the right move, but still wasn't something he had to do. Scottie then goes on to bad mouth the Bulls all across the league after that... Until he is all broken and Jerry signs him and gives Scottie another payday. Reinsdorf sucks but if I had a guy badmouthing me for years I am not giving him another payday. Whatever he did. Then he goes and hires him as an ambassador and gives him another payday. The whole while Pippen made Jerry look like the bad guy, which IN THIS CASE he wasn't. I mean Jerry is but not in this case. Then while working for the team he clowns them on TV? That whole story line has always bugged me about him. It's not just that though. His rep is not that of the nicest person. This all started before LArsa, who he married in 1997. I think that whole situation didn't help him either. Still though he is my all time favorite Bull.
MJ is a prick, but you know what kind of prick MJ is. He an Alpha and likes everyone to know it. Pippen is different. He is truly oblivious of how much of an ass he is I think.
I think this is spot on and we all know people like Scottie with no self-awareness. He's a classic example of a self-centered and arrogant person who doesn't have a lot of common sense and isn't as smart as he thinks he is.

The man called Jordan selfish for leaving the game, AFTER jordan had to deal with the death of this father who was found nearly unrecognizable in a ditch. You dont call a man selfish for retiring after his father has died. Pippen went a bit too far on that one for me.
On top of the fact that there are several times Krause wanted to trade pippen for younger talent and jordan stepped in and said he won't play unless it's with pippen. Honestly the bulls could have been even more deadlier if it was jordan , Jalen rose and Shawn Kemp than with pippen. But jordan wanted his guys. Calling jordan selfish in that scenario is just out of line imo. Not when the man lost his father. Not when he could have threw pippen under the bus and demanded "more help " like lebron does annually after losing to the Pistons. Jordan never does that believes in his teammates makes them tougher then they become champions.

Uhhh, the same Jalen Rose who led our team to pitiful league records and didn’t have any concept of defense and Shawn Kemp that bloated up into a drug fueled hippo and couldn’t get a spot on our roster despite organizing private workouts with the franchise?
I don’t think those guys could be the supporting cast for MJ in any serious capacity. They would have been like the Bulls BEFORE Pip was drafted. At very best, probably like a 52 win team that got bounced in the second round.

wow going for the race card now.....
I feel like people have been excused from their ESPN gigs for less than this.
Wonder how much longer he'll be on The Jump.
Would also be fun to have Charles interview him and ask some questions on TNT
I mean if you want exposure Scottie.....
Has anyone here actually read the book?
I'm kinda tempted so this plan of his is kinda working...

Re: Pippen Writing Memoir, Tells His Side of Story
Pippen is such an enigma. The 94 Bulls were so surprisingly good because Pippen didn't try to be Jordan. Most Jordan's 26 shots per game in 93 where redistributed elsewhere: Pippen's own attempts per game barely went up from 16.4 to 17.8. He just kept playing his game, he didn't try to be "the man" from a scoring perspective.
And, yet, this one moment, Pippen is obsessed with getting his chance to play Jordan.
The irony is that Kukoc nailing the shot and winning the game is a strong positive toward Pippen's own legacy. Without Jordan, Pippen nearly led the Bulls to the ECF (or, more generously, the Finals or a Championship). If the Bulls lose game 3 instead (either with Pippen or Kukoc missing), that narrative probably changes to the Pippen led Bulls getting crushed in the second round and falling apart without Mike.

Re: Pippen Writing Memoir, Tells His Side of Story
Pippen has always had a love/hate relationship with himself and his legacy. He's the greatest sidekick of all time and he's spoken about how his legacy is tied to the success of those Bulls teams and yet he has never seemed completely comfortable with his position in that success.
He also had a couple famous melt downs in key situations with the "headache game" and the Toni shot and I think that most casual fans associate him with those two moments and it bothers him.
Scottie was a great player but I don't think he's particularly charismatic off the court and he's coming across as trying hard to sell books right now. I don't blame him, he is just doing good business, but it's fair to critique him for it as well. I don't really think Phil is racist for drawing up that play. Phil might be a racist, and some of the stuff in Phil's book is if not racist, lazy stereotyping, but drawing up that play for Toni has nothing to do with race and everything to do with basketball.

What I find interesting about Pippen calling Phil racist was in the same interview he was saying Barkley only beat up white guys and never fought a black man… which to me comes off pretty racist in comparison to drawing up a play for Toni. I mean Scottie was euro bashing before Toni ever got here, which is well racist right or is that not racism? He literally doesn’t care what he says as long as he gets headlines right now. It’s worked… he has this mentioned on numerous threads on the Bulls board and the General Bkard and I am sure it’s discussed in other places on RealGM too. Reddit, Twitter, Facebook etc…. Who was talking about Pip before this? No one so mission accomplished for Pip

Yea he's just shooting his shot with the book. Those comments about Chuck were head scratching as well. Like Charles fought Shaq and Kemp and many other black guys as well as Laimbeer and whoever else. His fights with Laimbeer might be the most well known, just because Laimbeer is Laimbeer: but it's not like Chuck was out there only getting into it with white guys.
I also think that his ex wife basically doing a tour of league with younger guys is also bothering him. Son dies, ex wife steps out on the town with half a dozen young bucks, MJ is still teflon after Last Dance and I think it just added up to Scottie trying to profit and make some money and name for himself. Like I said, hey, do you, sell some books.

When I use the term racism, I typically mean conscious bias against a race. It's hard for me to believe Phil Jackson exhibits that.
I think sometimes people confuse racism with subconscious bias. It's very believable to me that Phil Jackson had various generalized / extrapolated opinions and subconscious bias like all of us do.

Yeah I can see Phil being racially insensitive but I think that’s a gap from being racist. Well Pip has his book and future interviews to expound on those comments and I am sure he will.

This is about as sensitive a take as is possible.
Prior to the final (Kucoc) play, Pippen had been given a couple iso plays where he seriously ished the bed. This may have played a part in PJax's decision on the final shot.

Transplant, I think you are missing the bigger picture... the rim was being racist that night to Pippen too. Jackson used his Feng Shui and other zen voodoo that night to make it impossible for Pippen to succeed.

This is about as sensitive a take as is possible.

I confess to not having taken Feng Shui into account. Embarrassing as it may be, I didn't know how to spell it. I did take zen voodoo into account, but did not consider it as an overriding factor.
Until the actual truth is more important to you than what you believe, you will never recognize the truth.
