Re: Pippen Writing Memoir, Tells His Side of Story
scottie obviously has a weird personal hangup about the kukoc shot that is seemingly detached from reality to at least some extent. that being said, "phil jackson is a racist" is one of the least eyebrow-raising things he's said on his latest media run, considering:

He's the greatest sidekick of all time and he's spoken about how his legacy is tied to the success of those Bulls teams and yet he has never seemed completely comfortable with his position in that success.
He also had a couple famous melt downs in key situations with the "headache game" and the Toni shot and I think that most casual fans associate him with those two moments and it bothers him.
Scottie was a great player but I don't think he's particularly charismatic off the court and he's coming across as trying hard to sell books right now. I don't blame him, he is just doing good business, but it's fair to critique him for it as well. I don't really think Phil is racist for drawing up that play. Phil might be a racist, and some of the stuff in Phil's book is if not racist, lazy stereotyping, but drawing up that play for Toni has nothing to do with race and everything to do with basketball.
When I use the term racism, I typically mean conscious bias against a race. It's hard for me to believe Phil Jackson exhibits that.
I think sometimes people confuse racism with subconscious bias. It's very believable to me that Phil Jackson had various generalized / extrapolated opinions and subconscious bias like all of us do.
I mean it's not PC to say but anybody that watched the NBA in the 90's and early aughts def understood what Phil was digging at with the more "selfish" (quotes for a reason) playstyle of some AA players. His quote was actually pretty nuanced and perhaps even anti-racist as he was talking about the freedom young white players have that their black counterparts do not having growing up and how it affects their playstyles. That's actually pretty woke thing to say at the time, something that Coates def touches on in a lot of his writing is just how "hard" many AA boys have to come up in America as a self preservation technique.
All that said Scottie should realize heavy is the head that wears the crown. Frankly I don't think he was built the way Lebron or MJ or hell even Durant is and he would not have handled being the #1 option that well. We saw it the year Jordan was gone. He was the greatest side kick of all time, he should just embrace that. But for various reasons I don't think he ever will, and never has.

You can tell he doesn't believe his takes on some of this stuff, I mean even the Steve Kerr thing. Does anyone believe PJ was a racist and that's why he called that play for Kukoc? It isn't even logical, and maybe Phil is, but that isn't the evidence that is to be presented to prove the case. Patrick tried to feed him with the Steve Kerr shot comment and Pip kinda missed it. Pippen is well aware though that he is giving hot takes and he is using this media tour for his book to it's fullest.

Wonder how much longer he'll be on The Jump.
Would also be fun to have Charles interview him and ask some questions on TNT
I mean if you want exposure Scottie.....
Has anyone here actually read the book?
I'm kinda tempted so this plan of his is kinda working...
ESPN probably wants him on for the attention.
But if they were to part ways I don't think they'd really miss him. He doesn't bring much to their show IMO.

He hasn’t been on the jump for a long time. Also…those PJax quotes about white/black players differences…damn.
Still though, Pippen JUST said on twitter how much he loved Kukoc and respected him as a teammate, saying his entry to the HOF was well deserved when many of us here didn’t even feel he deserved it.
Considering teams have and continue to implode under far less stress than bringing in a heated opponent to the roster or taking on a foreign player who was being openly touted to steal your spot on the depth chart, I’d say the second three peat Bulls functioned spectacularly maturely and co-operatively.
For gods sakes, Kukoc is the one waiter Pippen DOES tip.

Re: Pippen Writing Memoir, Tells His Side of Story
I wanted so badly to support Pippen's take on things because there is so much goodwill on my end towards a guy who was criminally underrated when he left, and even more criminally underrated after The Last Dance. But the ridiculous things Pip's bringing up have him sounding like the crazy ex girlfriend who is so angry at her ex that she just throws out a bunch of lies and ultimately ends up discrediting herself. Phil's racist? Where's the evidence? Apparently someone questioned whether Pip had an agenda against Phil when Pip said that. This person told Pip that he probably felt that way because of what happened with Kukoc taking "The Shot", and Pip said something like, "You're judging this from afar. I worked with the guy." Well, if you're gonna make a claim like that, then bring the evidence Pip! But you brought no evidence, except that stuff about Kobe, which comes across as delusional. Kobe had a great relationship with Phil. That is not evidence. Crazy statements with no evidence usually come from YouTubers who are clout chasing. No one's gonna buy a book that's written at a YouTube clout chaser's level. And Jordan had an evil plan to win the game with Kerr in front of the cameras, showboating? What's bad about that?

Same exact play call as the playoff shot. Scottie inbounding. He has no issues here and is celebrating when they win.

So what? It does nothing to change what happened later that year in the playoffs, when Pip refused to make the inbounds pass.

Colin Cowherd says Scottie is a lazy entitled liar who is worthless. Actually goes entirely too hard on him IMHO.
Also, looks like Scottie and Toni are hanging out these days.

How did that really naturally come about? We saw ghe conversation on camera and sure it could've been rehearsed. What's the real story then though? I don't know how much Scottie will be willing to disclose and until then we have to go with what we know.
How in the hell does that (the talking into the camera accusation) make sense? So, it was rehearsed and MJ was talking to the cameras but it was only for show for the cameras and that was not supposed to happen, but somehow it happened exactly like MJ said it should right into the cameras? It makes no sense at all what Scottie was saying. We all saw and heard Michael look right at Steve Kerr and tells him "if they're coming off you.. be ready" meaning that if the double came from him, he would be open and the ball was coming to him. Although MJ was covering his mouth with his Gatorade cup and it sure looked like he was trying to cover his mouth so nobody could read his lips or hear him.... Kerr replied... "If he comes off... I'll be ready". Then Michael drew the double and Kerr was open and Michael passed the ball to him and the rest is history. What an amazing turn of events that it just so happened to work out just the way Michael said it would even though he didn't really mean it and was just doing it for the cameras. What?
Scottie is full of S*** .... the only thing Scottie was truthful about was that the play was drawn up for Michael. But what Michael said to Kerr and what happened was real. Please... that was rehearsed? So, they knew that that situation would arise in that game and had planned to make that exchange right before a last second play in a Finals game? PLEASE.

Hey man, i had a reply for you but Iost my draft, smh!
I think when someone like Scottie says something he does say some weird things pretty often but he WAS there, we weren't. And MJ has been known to stretch the truth allot when he wants to tell a story. Examples include, exaggerating about being cut from his High School basketball team and saying three guys came to deliver a pizza through his trainer. The pizza gate story, I find hard to believe because I listened to the radio interview of the guy who claimed he was the manager of that pizza hut and he personally delivered the pizza mentioning that no one else was with him. As for the Kerr/MJ exchange, my thought is that, do we really know for sure this timeout even happened in the Utah game? It could have been a conversation that happened in a different game and MJ decided to enhance the story by getting his people to edit the footage, I Don't know, I'm just questioning and speculating what could have ACTUALLY Happened. On the other hand maybe Scottie just DGAF about MJ's tales anymore and is just spewing BS. My point is we really Don't know but usually when someone like Scottie says something, lies can certainly be told but there is almost always a sprinkle of truth somewhere in what is being said. That's why I kind of gravitate towards the camera thing has some legs, I just don't know specifically what that point in his interview means.

So essentially I don't want to dismiss what Scottie is saying here just because it sounds like BS. It does sound like BS but I tend to think that the Phil=racist comments are BS but this camera tidbit may have some truth to it. Do you really think he's going to completely lie about everything in an interview? Maybe, but it's unlikely and some of what he is saying has to be true somewhere. I doubt it's all lies.

Interesting article I found on NBA Reddit that sort of fit here; recounts how a teeny teen Dirk Nowitzki who was not even old enough to drive throttled a prime Scottie Pippen damn near 70 points in an organized basketball game, and then goes on to talk about what a massive arrogant **** Pippen was to Dirk in all their interactions in the NBA.

Kind of reminds me of of times I’ve read interviews with Andres Nocioni tried to introduce himself to Pippen in a Chicago bar while he was on the Bulls and Pippen basically told him to **** off.

I love Pip the player but have always known he was less than stellar with his personal interactions. I will say in fairness to Pip, that in context he was praising Dirk at the end of his career and in this case he was just playing with a chip on his shoulder early on. Not saying Pippen was a nice guy but this article seems to magnify his busting a rookies chops maybe more than it should. Pippen has earned that though the way he acts through the years. Lots of inexcusable in the moment things from him. This is just yet another story. He absolutely has more than 3 strikes against him.

Pippen was invited to Dirk's final home game, so maybe things weren't too bad in the end.
