Front office and future
So, now when we got coach and gm in place, what will it mean for how mavs are run? How do you think it will be for our rookies? Last years rookies coming back? If them 4 is coming back, is it even worth buying a 2nd in this draft? New coach usually use and develop young guys, or is he under pressure right away and have to rely on vets? How will we want to play?
I just realized that those questions kinda need to be answered to even begin to think about what trades are needed or FAs to hunt and plan for the future.
I dont think this will happen, but can say how I would prefer next season to be.
I hope there is a no pressure season from cuban. I dont want to call it tank, cause 1 i dont think that will happen and 2 its hard to tank with a winner like luka. But I would want us to bring back all the rookies and play them more then garbage time. Not many teams got capspace in the summer, so sign either young players or good roleplayers to contracts that wont be bad the moment they are signed and can be used in trades in the future. Preferably they should end with KPs contract. No expensive old guys like ddr and such. I would, after thinking about it, be willing to trade maxi if we can get a pick in 20-25 range and that pick is used on either a pf or sf. Most to see what new frontoffice can do in the draft.
And then just play. Try to get luka to sign on to maybe rest a bit more since it was a tough po and then the olympics. Get him to understand that its an evaluation year for the future and missing the po might not be fun, but might be the best for the team in the long run. Get to po, fine. Miss po, also fine and gives a lotto pick. Also need to replace parts of the coaching staff so will be many things that need to get its gears to fit.
Main thing is just for cuban to not stress it and get luka to buy into a plan for the long haul.

Re: Front office and future
I don’t think there is really any way to tell how they are going to round this team and coach this team. Kidd has run an offense before as a coach buts he’s never had a Luka Doncic level player run his offense. And how much of it will truly be Kidd’s offense? I would expect the actually plays on the court will be called by Luka. Did he play a lot of rookies in Brooklyn or Milwaukee?
Same goes for Finley and Nico. Will Finley run the team similar to Nelson or will he do things his own way? How much do Finley and Nico value draft picks?
We’re going to learn a lot about this team and how it’s run when the draft is here at the end of the month.

Good luck getting Luka to buy into "its ok if we dont get in PO". The Mavs should be in win now mode. Luka is in year 4, if he doesnt start winning he will not be happy at all.

Re: Front office and future
Kidd will need to re-think his defensive philosophy from his days as a head coach. He had some kind of pressure defense in his years with Bucks where the Bucks actually got worse defensively even with Giannis. My guess is that he's probably learned quite a bit since his time there, but I would like to know which assistant is charged with actualizing the defensive philosophy.
Honestly, I'm not sure the offense changes much. The pace is pretty much set with whatever Luca dictates. It can't get a whole lot better.
Which players are targeted in free agency will tell us more than anything.

Problem is that only way mavs is in win now mode is if kawhi signs with us. Nothing else mavs can do this summer will give them a chance. Without him u will need to build for a few years down the line. Part of being a winner like luka is that it doesnt matter if they end up last or 2nd, its win or bust. And im pretty sure luka after those 2 years knows that as the team is atm they cant win

I don’t agree with your timeline. There’s a very good chance that this team is in the top 3 in the West next season and very much a title contender. They’re not exactly a crappy team now and with some added talent this off season in addition to Luka’s improvement this team could easily finish in the top 3. Look at the Suns as an example. Before the season no one had them in the top 4 much less had them in the Finals. The Bucks are another perfect example. They have 1 great player and several really good role players. This Mavs team is not that far off. They do need to upgrade their role players but they should be able to do that this off season. We’ll see though.

Re: Front office and future
I dont think we are. Most trades on these boards is just downgrading talent or add some guy that were good 5 years ago that ppl hope will get good again. Clearly we cant upgrade a position of need and most are trades for expensive pgs, which definetly wont do us any good. Trading away 1sts is a big no atm and we should really try to get that 23 1st back incase an oportunity rises. Cant see much of use in the FA market thi year and the rfas will get way overpayed. Cant see us be much better next year. Ofc, po could have gone our way, but so could it or 10 other teams. Imo mavs need to be stable and not do shorterm fixes for the coming season and then be buried for 3 years.

The Suns added CP3...i don't see a player like him who could sign here next season.
The Bucks were already a contender, then trade scrubs for Holiday.
Very different situation than us.

Conley, and Lowry fit that CP3 role. To a lesser extent Patty Mills. Both Mills and Lowry have won a title and know what it takes to get there.

CP3 is completely on another level, he had a monster season.

Houston trading CP3 for Westbrick was the beginning of the end for the Houston playoff run.

I was laughing at Houston the day they made that trade.

Anybody heard Andre Iguodala's story about how we was already prepared to be a Mav until Donnie asked him to wait?
Yeah. Glad that idiot is gone. Hope Nico Harrison can foster and maintain better relationships that Donnie did. He just set the bar so low.

Kidd on KP: "He's a perfect fit for Luka."
Safe to say the new management will try at least one season of KP before thinking of trading him away. Any changes may come by way of sending out THJ due to cap concerns. Either by trade, S&T or simply letting him walk and signing someone else.

It was Cuban pulling the strings so nothings going to change. Cuban was chasing what he called a generational superstar, Dwight Howard. Same reason why we didnt draft the guy playing in the Finals now

To summarize the press conference today:
Bob the shadow GM is still employed.
Cuban said that he will (still) be the one calling the shots.
And Kidd said that KP is the perfect fit for Luka.
In short Dallas is going to be trash next season.

So Kidd and Nico are the reason the Mavs will be trash? Because that’s really the only difference between last year and this year and they almost made it to the 2nd round.

Dallas has no future as long as Cuban is the owner.
