I'd rather give Fournier or Powell a 4 year deal because atleast those guys have proven they can be multifaceted and have shouldered playing 36mpg.
Duncan is a nice player but I'd be weary of paying a guy whose gonna be 27 and his most ppg on a winning team was 13.5. Yeah, that's a hard pass for me next to Fournier and Powell. How much more is DR going to improve? Even a guy like Khris Middleton who we all accept as a late bloomer had already put up 18ppg before he was 27.
I think his best fit is being a 4th or 5th best player on a championship team. that means its a hard pass for me on giving him a 4 year deal at higher than 10m AAV. If he wants to come here for 4/40 I'd do that in a heartbeat, but hes probably gonna get overpaid to be just a spot up 3 guy that has better than avg defense.
Even though Fournier and Powell are 27 years old and don't exactly fit the timeline of the YOUNGER Knicks, like RJ, IQ, Mitch, Obi? - they do fit the timeline of Randle, where the Knicks could sign one (after getting a PG) and look to go on a 3 or 4 year run tied to Randle's prime, then not resign any of them and reboot under a RJ/IQ/Mitch/picks nucleus.
If done right, they could get another 4 or 5 year playoff run in - obviously contingent on drafting well even in the 20s, plus what FAs might be available 4 years from now.
On the other hand, I get that people are looking for a much bigger time player than either Powell or Fournier, but those are two really good, well rounded players who score from all over the court, shoot well and can pass some, especially Fournier.
I can get why people might consider it a 6th seed treadmill though.
Still:
Sexton/Rose
RJ/IQ
Fournier/Vildoza or Durate
Randle/? (or Obi if not put into Sexton trade)
Mitch/Olynyk (my choice for backup)
Pinson/Bullock/Duarte
Not a bad team. I guess not a great one either.
