Which player increased his value the most in 2020-21 season?

Post#1 » by SUPERVILLAIN » Thu Jul 22, 2021 5:26 pm

It can be in form of higher trade value or higher potential future earnings.

A few names on top of my mind: Chris Paul, Reggie Jackson, Andrew Wiggins

Randle and Grant for sure. They both jumped levels.

Bridges and Ayton. Garland. Bruce Brown. Paul George.

Any superstar who wants to get traded did, because the amount of first round picks teams are willing to trade for players now are insane.

Need clarification. Value as in on court value or immediate FA contract value?

Like CP3 and RJax are great examples of their future contracts getting a massive boost. CP3 was seen as on the downslope as Father Time is coming for him, however after a steller season helping lead PHX to the finals, maybe teams will be less fearful giving him a massive multi year deal (like 3yr 100mil) if he opts out. RJax went from league min barely hanging on fringe player, to a player that will easily get the non tax MLE (10-11mil) offers from multiple teams, with the possibility of more.

Or are we talking on court value of players locked in to a deal, like a Julius Randle, who most people wrote off as a black hole no D scrub who will barely be worth the MLE. Instead Randle had a fine season where he became an all star and can possibly be a decent 2nd or great 3rd best best player on a championship contender.

trae - no longer viewed as a bad draft swap

jrue - validated his peers' opinion of his defense. his offense was below par in the playoffs, nonetheless he proved, like kawhi, that HIS defense matters

booker - mainly from the playoffs

Bobby Portis. I thought he was going to be a volatile troublemaker who can hit threes and score on bad teams while being a net negative. He turned out to be a instant offense and energy guy, stretch 4 who defends much better than I ever thought.

Yeah I feel like we've almost returned to the early-1980s when it comes to how teams value (or perhaps don't value) first round picks. It's so much different from how it was even five years ago.

Mike Conley has probably earned himself another decent contract.

Definitely not on court value. This is about increased trade value or free agency value in near future.

Some good names that I have read so far are Chris Paul, Reggie Jackson, Jerami Grant, Michael Porter Jr., Deandre Ayton, Mike Conley.

Bump. I'm planning to start a poll for this topic. I would like to hear some more candidates to be the poll options.

Did Wiggins really do anything to increase his value other than get through a year of his contract?

Reggie obviously increased his value a billion in the post season. Seems like the easiest answer. Randy’s is another big one.
