I'm going to have to beg to differ on Giannis being this super likable star.

Does he have a nice story? Yes
Was it cool he was drafted 15th and not initially expected to be great? Sure.

But I don't see his on court persona as particularly likable. I mean, are there bigger d*chebags in the NBA? Absolutely.
I just think his constant flexing and glaring after nearly every basket gets kind of old.
I don't really see him behavior as different than any other NBA star.

Sound soft as hell

What's soft about it?

I'm pointing out he acts like every other NBA player. There's nothing inherently likable or dislikable about him.

I thought he was pretty damn humble during the playoffs. In stark contrast to clowns like Jae Crowder.

Just not on the Knicks though.

Hafta renounce Frank to remove huge cap hold and resign with a new much lower contract if they want to retain him.

Now Mitch Robinson. I can see reasons why the FO would not want to commit big money to him.

They've got time with Mitch, though I guess they risk him being an RFA after, correct?

Love him or not, I think Mitch CAN'T get dealt with until they get at least one big time player under contract (sorry Julius, don't mean you) and probably even another signing.

Yeah I can't see the Knicks trading Mitch unless it's in a mega buster deal. Had he been in his expected peak form the Hawks series could have been very different. I would expect the Knicks will want to see what (knock on wood) a healthy Mitch can do with this cast (and whatever they can add in this offseason).

Mitch will be a UFA next year (assuming he gets his option picked this month). We will keep his bird's rights and it gives us flexibility considering his small Cap Hold (I think 4M).

But there are a lot of red flags, considering he can go to whatever team he wants and we cant stop it. There are a lot of facts we have to consider.

1) Rin runners like him are asking 20M/y (Holmes and Jarret Allen). Capela will be paid 17M next season. If we keep him, we have to be prepared to pay him big money. A desperate Front Office can pay him 20M/y considering his charisma and highlight plays (blocks and dunks). We can also fall in bluff and overpay him to avoid losing him for nothing considering he is not RFA. Especially if we capped out next season and can pay anything without impacting the cap space.

2) I don't know if we are offering him this season a 56M/4 (14M/y) extension to keep flexibility. But may reject this offer anyway demanding a nicer contract in the offseason (when there are no limits).

3) He is kind of injury-prone considering the previous season. It can be viewed as bad luck or a consequence of a kind of his playing style too.

4) He is not a reliable guy outside the court. He dropped College and had 5 different agents in the last 3 years. Front Office should not trust his words.

5) A confident team can like his contract (and birds rights) and trust he will re-sign. We can get a more reliable asset in exchange.

6) Rim protectors no skilled bigs can be a liability. Especially in playoffs.

7) We will try to get a star in every opportunity. It is probable he will be reached by potential trading partners about a promise to re-sign. He can get upset to be involved in trade talks.

Guys like Crowder I have near top of the ahole list. I think Giannis is just kind of generic - neither likable or unlikable. This is all pretty subjective.

Again, since he won, the new narrative emerges. Super likable Giannis!

If he lost, no one would give one sh*t either way.

Plus, we need some rumors and actual stuff happening ASAP, so we don't need to discuss if Giannis is nice or not. :D

He's more likeable by default. Most of the other guys at his level are narcissistic, arrogant divas.
