I think there was a best available white guy era. I think it is past and I'm not going to name a villain.

Yes Hansborough and Plumlee were very talented college studs, but as we’ve seen that college talent doesn’t always transfer to the pros. So hopefully the Pacers scouts can see the NBA characteristics needed by prospects in this draft despite ethnicity, race, country, and so on.

HA! That sounds like a big brother trying to help his little brother get a job. Nothing wrong with that.

I mean, 2nd rounders don't typically amount to much so you might as well swing for the fences and draft an Antetokounmpo. If nothing else, they're lucky charms. All of them have won a championship. He played a total of 2 minutes on his overseas contract last year so not a lot to go off of there.

NBATV mock has us taking Davion Mitchell. His nickname is Off Night because the guy he defends has one. He can replace Aaron and provides insurance should TJ get a big offer. I like it.

Yup. I've come to the position that if a draftee is going to earn minutes as a rookie, he'll have to be a defensive stopper. Mitchell is that. Who else? Garuba? Not sure about Moody? That said, I have no problem taking a wing who will be stuck behind Lamb for one year.

OK. Here is my sure-fire prediction for draft night. When it is our turn to pick......ESPN will cut to a commercial break. :banghead:

it has worked that way for years for every Colts pick.

I’ve come around on this. I’d do this. If we walked out of draft night with Reddish and, say, Garuba? I’d be pretty darned happy. I think I’d only be upset if Moody was available at 13 and we missed out on him, though.

This is hardly new news but Chad Ford reports today:

The Pacers, at 13, have also shopped their pick, looking for veteran help.

or Reddish and Cooper. I'd add Mitchell to the names I'd be upset missing out on at 13 but Reddish would take Doug's minutes. Cooper or Mitchell would rekindle the trade Aaron threads.

I think Aaron would have to go to Atlanta for salary matching in a Reddish/20 for 13 type deal.

Reddish got hot from 3pt in the playoffs, but other than that? His career numbers are 44% from 2pt, and 31% from 3pt range. That isn't impressive. But, I don't know how he is on defense. Anyone have an opinion about that? Unless he is a lockdown defender, I think we can see why Atlanta wants to move him.

Add to that, we would be moving from 13 down to 20? I'm not a fan of that.

Good question. He definitely hasn’t played to his draft projection yet, but he’s still only 21 years old. And, that poor play is the only reason he’s even possibly available. Otherwise, Atlanta has hit on other wing drafting (Hunter and Huerter) and signings (Bogdan Bogdanovic), so it’s hard to see Reddish ascend more than the 4th wing. They’re also seeing their salaries balloon, as guys are coming up for new deals and extensions, and rookie contracts are burning off, so there’s a belief that they may want to “recycle” some of their guys they may not be able to keep after rookie contracts for other, cheap, rookie contracts and re-start the 4 year cycle again.

He’s long, and a good defender, though. Lockdown? Not yet, but he’s good there.

Him being available because he hasn't played well doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Acquiring those other players at his position is not a vote of confidence by Atlanta, either.

He’s long, and a good defender, though. Lockdown? Not yet, but he’s good there.

Finally, some good news?

Look, I know it sounds like I'm ragging on him, but this draft is our best chance to add real quality, cheaply, in some time. I'd just hate to see us mess it up.
