Either we include Prince in a consolidation trade for someone like Turner or Collins, or we can use our full MLE. Haven't spent any time figuring out who might make a good target. Any ideas? Maybe Bobby Portis? He can opt out of his 3,7m contract and would bring some size and some serious tenacity / menace to our front court.

I don't believe we can trade Prince with any other players for 2 months.

I also doubt we use the full MLE unless we dump more salary. I don't see us hard capping ourselves at this point.

You have to look to lineup Dreb or On/Off rebound differential, because if a player is good boxing out but don't actually grab it you miss it and he still good.

McDaniels was a raw rookie his rebounding will improve, he will be a better Isaacs IMO.

If Taurean Prince is our starting 4 on opening night Rosas has lost his mind

Agreed and I’m 99% sure that Wolves aren’t putting a SF at PF anymore based on all Rosas press conferences since deadline. At least not for long stretches. If I’m wrong then I’ll be furious.

Sucks to see Rubio get traded again. Was really hoping he'll stay here for good.

Sucks for Prince, since he'll be known as the guy we traded Rubio for. But I guess good for him that he doesn't play the same position as Rubio. We know how Teague turned out.

Eh, I don’t think anyone has any illusions that Prince is replacing Rubio.

Sure he is if we're dumb enough to play small ball.

Dane said he could be used as a small ball 4, but stressed that we know that hasn’t worked next to KAT, with bad numbers when he was paired with Covington, Juancho, and McDaniels.

and the numbers when KAT was hurt and Dieng played were good, so "small ball" can work if KAT can finally become even mediocre on D

Dane also says a lot of things. I’d take it all with an unhealthy amount of salt

I'm really not interested in going small again, I just think it doesn't work with all of these huge teams.

Me neither. I fell like teams bend us to their will at the 4 spot. I want a bruiser or someone who just creates havoc at the PF spot, or a very athletic 5. I was hoping we’d get a top three pick and have a shot at Mobley.

I'm so glad that the pendulum has swung away from small ball back to tall ball. I was a voice crying in the wilderness for this a couple years ago.

Agreed. Small ball can work for brief stretches, but don’t think it’s sustainable for a whole game.

Small ball is skill based not height based and teams pushing for versatility will always be correct.

If you don't care about rebounding or defense.

Between McDaniels and Prince, they combined for 11 Rebounds/36 last year. That's atrocious from your forwards...

Lineups are situational in order to get a matchup in a specific area. When you run a small-ball lineup, you are oftentimes willing to concede some rebounds in favor for advantages in other areas.

Prince doesn't do that either. He has no physicality to his game. He's a 3 point shooter with a little bit of passing ability. He really doesn't add anything else.

Let me look at this trade from an angle that hasn't really been discussed.

Read on Twitter

While Dane brings up the pick's usefulness as ammo, I want to discuss the merit of having it and keeping it.

We were all disappointed about not having a pick on Thursday night. However, this wasn't a particularly deep draft and the Wolves don't necessarily have the roster spots to spare. Once Bolmaro signs his rookie scale deal, we will have 13 players under contract (plus two RFAs in Vanderbilt and McLaughlin). Whoever we added probably would've been a long shot to make the team.

Meanwhile, we added a second round pick next year when things really start to open up. Prince and Layman will be UFAs, Culver's 2022-23 option will likely be declined making him a UFA, Juancho is unguaranteed and Okogie is an RFA. While I know many are hoping most of those guys are gone this summer, it's still likely there will be more roster spots available, so having up to four picks in the draft could be super useful.

According to Cleaning the Glass, Prince ranks in the 87th percentile for forwards in 2020-21 (42.2%) on his long range shooting. The corner three is his sweet spot where he shoots 54%, or in the 96th percentile for forwards this season. While on the floor, the Cavs are +5.8 in points scored per 100 possessions.

Think about the horns set. It's many times Towns, Edwards and Russell at the top of the key with two guys in the corners.
