I dont understand sign and trade when a team can sign the guy outright. I am no cap expert and havent looked at the numbers but I was told on RealGM that the heat can sign Lowry outright, so why would they sign and trade? Why wouldnt Lowry just sign with the Heat and not trade Dragic and Precious back?

I know Masai touched him with the 4th overall pick so now he's going to be a first ballot HOFer but if you look at his skillset, he has no offensive game at all.

He'll need to have a Kawhi type development in order to justify being picked that high. Will he do it? Maybe maybe not. But as of right now, he's an energy guy.

I know people don't want to hear that but the only thing that's really different between him and MKG is the playmaking. Everyone thought MKG was gonna fix his offense and become the next big thing. We all know how that story ended.

Getting drafted into a situation where you join the team with the worst record of all time in Charlotte is far different from getting drafted by a team with a track record as ours

because when you use cap space you lose the right to MLE and BAE
by stucturing it as s&t and staying over the cap they were able to sign pj tucker, dedmond gabe vincent max strauss
have option to resign olidipo
it was about flexibility.

and dragic was never going to play for heat, they only picked up the option after raptors agreed to take him in s&t

so the decision from them is cap flexiblity > achiuwa

OK, if this is true, we should pretend to look for a 3rd team and strikeout on purpose to get more compensation (maybe that's what we're doing). Then flip Dragic at the trade deadline instead for some assets lol.

Ok, thats what I thought. So we can stop the narrative "Raptors are lucky to even get Precious as the Heat could have signed Lowry without S&T" as the heat gain more from this than the Raptors do if its just Precious and Dragic for example.

If a player couldn’t break through in the Raptors development system it probably isn’t gonna happen. He’s not all that young anymore either. He might stick somewhere as a role player but star isn’t happening

That wasn't my point - yes we are aware raps ideally don't want to take on Dragic. But the fact that the trade was basically announced and presumed to be complete while our roster is stuck in limbo and no confirmation of the deal is astonishing, and it's hard for me to believe that nobody in the media has more specifics abouts what's going on.

This is your mistake in understanding, then. It was not announced as "complete" as it was clearly announced as "Kyle Lowry agrees to 3/$90 S&T deal to Miami" and little more. There was speculation on the details of the deal, but nothing "complete". It's agreed to and cannot be made complete until Aug 6, so there is time for any of the other 28 teams in the league to be included in a multi-team deal. A

ll we know for certain is that Miami offered Dragic and Achiuwa and the Raptors are figuring out where to send Dragic. What other picks or cash or players or teams are involved require waiting. This is normal in the NBA offseason, but just like winter driving, people seem to forget every damn year and get into all kinds of avoidable accidents because they can't be even the tiniest bit patient.

It's far easier on your constitituion to sit back and let things play out before getting all worked up.
