2021 Summer League

Post#1 » by stitches » Mon Aug 2, 2021 7:58 pm

Tomorrow starts the SLC Summer league it seems. The Jazz are hosting 2 other teams(the Grizzlies and the Spurs) and featuring 2 teams of their own - Jazz Blue and Jazz White.

Here's the schedule:

August 3 5:00pm MT Memphis Grizzlies vs Jazz Blue
August 3 7:00pm MT San Antonio Spurs vs Jazz White

August 4 5:00pm MT San Antonio Spurs vs Jazz Blue
August 4 7:00pm MT Memphis Grizzlies vs Jazz White

August 5 5:00pm MT San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies
August 5 7:00pm MT Jazz Blue vs Jazz White

Here are the rosters for both Jazz teams... Noteable: Jazz draft pick Jared Butler will NOT play :

I think this is because the trade down is not finalized yet (will be on August 6th).

I'm very excited to see our normal guys but also MaCio Teague. I would love for him to show well and earn a two way if not a full contract. Let Butler have a nice adjustment to the league with a teammate

So far Chealey has been good on offense, but I'm really liking the individual D from Wright.

Defense too many players lost and out of place. Offense our team looks lost on what they are trying to do and seem to pass once they get in trouble. Not really working together

Wright caused a couple Memphis TO's with his individual defense... nice work. Tough to do when the rest of the team is porous.

Teague has been very unimpressive. He doesn't get down on defense and gets burned every time on the first step. Then spend way too much time watching instead of playing.

Martin needs to lose 50 lbs to get a little more speed and agility. He seem like he is playing in honey. Makes a lot of mistakes when handling the ball. Big body but really not impressed.

Teague has mostly played within the offense and making the correct pass. Too many guys are just chucking the shot once he passes though. Then towards the end of the half he forced a bit trying to get his offense going. Wright defense has been good. Chealey looks like he has some craftiness to his game. Newman also looks okay. The bigs haven't done much that is worth noting. Patton has been okay but eh

Teague over dribbles and forces it too much, and he gets caught flat footed too much on defense IMHO. I was really looking forward to seeing what he can bring, but so far I've been less then impressed.

Overall, I bet we see them player better their next game after they have time to review tape and coaches can point how selfish they played for most this game. So much you could focus on to help these players as a coach. I really liked Wright and Chealey with Patton getting an honorable mention. It will be interesting to see if Teague can improve for next game.
