Re: More Free Agent Talk
Yeah didn't they have the DPE for Klay all season last year and they never used it?
Lacob is feeling the luxury tax.
He's praying they're able to fill Chase Center to capacity, as well as hold concerts and such. Who knows, CA may require vaccine passport to get into games and other big events.

Lacob wont pay MLB unless Wiggins or Wiseman is dealt so that he can save a lot of luxury tax. Like I said in the past, we lock up too much $ in role players and it makes us really difficult to operate.

After Reggie Jackson and Dennis Schroder, looking like the Warriors just hold the mini-MLE for the buyout market.
2 yr/$20M for Danny Green. Geez.

Inflation is real. The money getting thrown around on questionable contracts this off-season is crazy.

I find it hard to believe that with four high-value contracts, not counting Oubre, Lacob's money problem is role players. But if I'm wrong, please explain.

Yeah, that's puzzling. Five contracts total $145 Million, then 3 rookie scale, and the rest minimum wage.

I would actually enjoy Schroder on the vet min on the Warriors
To tell you the truth I would probably enjoy him on the TPMLE as well.
Sure, but the vet min would be sweeter.
The guy turned down 84 millions. He's not going to play for the minimum. Actually I think he's looking for a bad team where he can statpad for a year as a starter so he can get paid next summer. I doubt he's even interested in being a sixth man for us.
Maybe Presti sees an opportunity to sign him for cheap as a 1-year rental so he can ship him at the deadline to a contender for picks.
Of the two, Reggie Jackson has a slightly higher chance of committing to the Warriors, but I think he'll either go back to the Clippers or find a bad team that wants to s&t for him.

Batum is balling out in the Olympics.
It hurts. He would have been huge for us.

Of course he is! The Warriors are nearly $100M over the cap. But he still ponied up even more this offseason.
It's not that he's not willing to spend the money, it's that they want a real difference made for his money. A 2 year TPMLE deal given out for a marginal player costs $50M ... and that's likely for a 10-15 minute player IF they work out and stay healthy. That's a tall ask.

Clearly Bob was after Batum and Mills and came up short. Curry is essentially being okay with AT LEAST the attempt.
"I would be disappointed if there was ever a vibe that you're complacent or that you're not proactive and looking to always get better," Curry said. "So if you're telling me we're trying to go after Batum, we're trying to go after Patty, and things didn't line up like that, then that's just how the league works. But if there's ever a situation where you don't feel that commitment from upstairs, then we have issues. I haven't felt that this summer."
It rare (and good) to get that insider info. Reasonable fans always know that it always comes down to the players choice, and when the money offered is equal it usually comes down to playing time and role. In those two cases (mills and Batum) the Warriors could match the money but not the PT/Role part.

So, according to you, everyone except Curry and Klay are role players? If that's the case, of course there is a lot tied up in role players. You have to have 14 players. But if you define it that way, everyone has a role to play, so they're all role players. It's just not the way most people define role players.

But I expect Mulder and possibly GP2 to get cut and hopefully 1 more FA signing.
I think GP2 gets cut before his guaranteed date - which is like next week.
Mulder may stay on the team until Klay gets back or may get cut out of training camp.
My feeling is that unless the Warriors can get a vet guard (I'm thinking like Avery Bradley) on vet minimum, they may try to roll with a 13 player roster to save some serious tax dollars. Then they'll try to get a capable guard on the other 2-way spot (next to Nico) and use that guy as needed with the big club - which does not effect the luxury tax.
Curry, Poole
Klay, Moody, Lee
Wiggins, Porter
Green, JTA, Kuminga
Looney, Belly, Wiseman
If still available, mid-way through the season they'll survey the buyout market and can offer the TPMLE to the best player available on the buyout market (if there's anyone worth it) but since more than half the season will be over, it won't hurt their tax bill as much as signing someone now.
Obviously things change if there's injuries or some guys are ineffective, but my guess is that would be their plan for the back end of the roster. As much as we like GP2 or Mulder, I have serious doubts either one is the difference in winning a game this season - and certainly not a playoff game... and we could be talking about $10M + in luxury tax here.
Can't go more than, I think, 2 weeks under 14 players.
I too think they should be looking for a guard.
I also think they are saving the TPMLE for flexibility later if possible.
IIRC Vet min deals have MASSIVE discounts on cap and on tax impact.
I think Mulder is next to be cut and GP2 gets a chance unless they can find someone clearly better.

Agreed. I don't see us using it. I think they try to sign Iguodala for the vet. minimum and call it a day. They're gonna go into the season with 14 players.
I love Iguodala but don't know that he's worth the roster spot. Hire him for the same money as a coach.

Hopefully Warriors can get an Oubre S&T for a TPE, so the Warriors have the TPE and the mini-MLE for mid-season acquisitions.
People keep talking about getting a TPE for Oubre and I keep asking ... HOW? But not only that ... why if they are not going to use it (which they likely won't).

2 yr/$20M for Danny Green. Geez.
Sixers fans seem to think it's a "good deal" ... I don't get it.

I think they are betting hard that there is going to be a huge jump in the cap ... and they may be right, because if not there is going to be a hard adjustment for free agents in the next couple years.
