I think it further proves who the problem is. Who's the one consistent, Mark Cuban. I bet Nico and Finley were bust stroking his ego telling him how awesome he was to pay attention to draft night

Might as well get used to it. This team is looking to contend and they’re looking for vets not rookies.

Nico is not wrong. Overall this team is pretty young. If they want to contend 2nd round rookies are not what they need to add. They need veterans. They also already have several 1st year players that are being groomed. Adding another project only takes away minutes from guys like Bey, Hinton, and Terry.

We will know a lot more about their plans after Sunday. If JRich opts in I fully expect him to get traded early next week. If he opts out here are the teams with the most cap space available. The Mavs should have enough to acquire both Lowry and resign THJ. They then would have the MLE to add another player. That may not be enough to sign Holmes but it would be more than enough to sign Willie Hernangomez as a backup big.

We should know a lot more about the direction of this team by Monday.

My gut feeling is Kemba for trash (JRich + Powell + S/T JJ [and dump]), resign Timmy, MLE options are plenty then (Hard look at Dragic)

Agreed. If Josh opts in, there will be an eventual Mavs trade headline to talk about - possibly on that Monday.

If Josh opts out, there will be eventual free agency speculation on how to spend the additional money.

Looks like JRich has been traded to the Celtics. I heard they were interested. Obviously this is a salary dump to get the Mavs to max cap space. I expect a couple more trades before FA actually starts.

Mavs To Send Richardson To Celtics
July 30th, 2021 at 7:13pm CST by Dana Gauruder
The Mavericks are finalizing a trade that would send swingman Josh Richardson to the Celtics, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets.

Richardson will exercise his $11.6MM option in order to make the deal happen, Charania adds.

The Celtics are using a $11.05MM trade exception acquire in the Gordon Hayward sign-and-trade last year in order to make the deal, Bobby Marks of ESPN tweets. Richardson made $10.86MM this past season, so Boston will finalize the deal on Saturday before the league calendar flips. The Mavericks will generate a trade exception in the same amount.

Dallas could have up to $34MM in cap room entering free agency, though a majority could come at the cost of losing free agent Tim Hardaway Jr., Marks adds.

Richardson averaged 12.1 PPG and 2.6 APG in 59 regular-season games with Dallas this past season, including 56 starts. He’s a career 35.8% 3-point shooter and 83.2% free throw shooter with the reputation of being a quality perimeter defender.

The Celtics also agreed to a three-way deal on Friday in which they shipped big man Tristan Thompson to the Kings and acquired guard Kris Dunn from the Hawks. However, Dunn could be moved as part of another trade, according to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe (Twitter link).

If the Hawks are signing Collins to a $120m contract as is rumored... is there any chance of going after Reddish?

I'd think Bogdanovic and Huerter are off-limits from ATL's perspective, that's why asking about Reddish. He did well in the playoffs... 64% 3PT shooting (which is an anomaly) and a +3.9 Defensive Box Plus/Minus.

This was 3 days ago. We might know a lot more by this time tomorrow which way the Mavs are going to go. But it does seem that ATL is listening to offers for Reddish.

Can't the Mavs beat 120m for 5 years? I thought they were interested by Colllins? I don't think he's worth the Max, but at least he's a good young player. You can do worst than him. He's a really efficient scorer, he was even in the playoffs.

I think that ship has sailed. How you going to beat 120/5 when he is happy with the Hawks? By offering 120/4?

That's a heck of a price to pay for a John Collins. You could make one real cheap at your own house. :P

Even 110 for 4 year is beating that offer and it's not far off from his potential value. Not that excited about it, but I prefer the idea of signing a 24yo than a 36yo. It's not like they aren't planning to give 25+ a year to Lowry who could be done in 2 years.

I value upside very much considering Luka is 22 and I don't think the team is winning anything next year no matter who they sign.

Lauri Markkanen and Terrence Ross are intriguing names to target. Same with Harrison Barnes.

Oh, and of course, I'd take Kevin Love if it only costs Dwight Powell and JJ Redick. That's an upgrade right there.

Honestly, do you really think there's a GM somewhere that would agree? I don't. As I told you already in another thread, he was so out of shape recently that USA Olympic Basketball rescinded their offer of asking him to join the team.

No GM is going to trade for a guy with his salary "hoping" that he gets back in shape.

I mean, the dude has an offseason to get back into shape. He just couldn't get back into shape for the Olympics. Plus, international ball is a different animal than the NBA. Like, I hear you, yes, but it's not something that can't be fixed.
