American media pretty much ignores the sport here. So I'm not surprised anytime someone has a similar type of response. It has gradually improved over the years. But it's still pretty much non-existent in the mainstream (sports) media. The only time it's discussed is during the World Cup.
The hardcore fans will follow/support MLS teams. But the quality of that league is so poor, that ratings are also very poor. So, it's hard to get people interested.

I believe that poster may be trolling because whenever an NFL player is mentioned here all the Euro's say they don't know who he is...

To be honest, I know who Mike Trout is, and I guarantee you Baseball over here is 100 times the obscure than Soccer is even in US. Personally, I just find hard to believe that a person alive in 2021 wouldnt know who Leo Messi is, especially person who has account on sports forum. No way I believe that guy doesnt really know who Messi is, hes just flexing anti Soccer muscles.

It's true. The U.S. got rid of the British a long time before Britain's sport, soccer, was invented. That's why it never caught on here and why Americans couldn't care less about it.
The rest of the world didn't do that, which is why it's popular everywhere except for the U.S.

if someone doesnt know who messi is in USA they're still going to look pretty uncultured, albeit it is not uncommon (more so for older people now).
and that guy is obviously trolling lol

You shouldn't be surprised at that due to the facts that football is not even called football in the states, and an average American doesn't give a **** about the world outside the states.

The average American sports fan probably couldn’t pick Messi out of a lineup. It’s crazy soccer isn’t more popular in the states considering every kid played because anyone can kick a ball around. For whatever reason the youth lose interest in the sport after middle school.

Well damn. That PSG team super stacked.
Happy for Messi he gets to play with di Maria, not to mention the bigger profile stars on that team haha.
