CJ Elleby with a -14 in 32 minutes of play. Not exactly promising.

He really is laughable as a NBA prospect, but we all miss Leonards' enthusiastic towel waiving and now we have lost Collins' dance moves :dontknow: so maybe we need him, but on the court... he's terrible. There's at least two other guards on this SL team and Simmons, that I think are more deserving of his roster spot

This has been the worst Summer League for watching the Blazers, by far IMO. Barely watchable, and couldn't make it through a whole game without getting Beasley fatigue. All three of those old farts we brought in looked washed. Brown looked ok; Real Twitchy... sort of reminded me of a less-skinny Outlaw.

Yes, CJ Elleby just doesn't look to be an NBA calibre player. I'd much rather Mudiay on the roster.

Greg Brown looks like a good high risk, high reward pick in the second round.

Well there's nothing particularly high risk about a second round pick, but I know what you mean as a low floor/high ceiling prospect.

Although I'm coming up on his floor. He seems coachable, he communicates and is engaged on the floor, obvious physical tools to impact both ends of the court and a not-broken outside shot. His biggest weakness are his handles and floor vision.

And instead of reaching for Elleby we could have had the obvious choice and get a guy who has put up these games in SLs:

9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 blocks, 1 assist
20 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
14 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal, 1 block
27 points, 20 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, 4 blocks
17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block, 1 assist

The guy we should have taken over Elleby is Martin Jr.

He is only 6'6, but bulky with great athleticism. Likely to develop into a nice 3/D guy w/ a 36% 3PT shot as a rookie and nearly 2 S+B per game in under 24mpg. Shown more than Elleby and, hell, Nassir as well at this stage.

Brown’s athleticism is promising, i’m actually starting to think this kid will be a decent role player and a good pickup. He is kinda like derrick jones jr only cheaper. And i think jones is better than we thought due to pt, he has a shot with billups to look good and i think guys like little brown & jones have time to shine now

Not great but summer league doesn’t really mean much. The one (and maybe only) thing i trust olshey with is drafting guards so if he missed on one he’s still shooting like 7 for 10 on drafting serviceable guards in his time in portland. If he could scout bigs and wings better & make trades we may have a championship but alas we aren’t that lucky..

Agree, which is why I don't understand why so many people want to sign a 36 year old Paul Millsap. The team would be better off signing Avery Bradley, because we need more guards 6'3" or smaller.

Yeah. Brown at least has the physical tools to be an NBA player if he can put it all together. No idea if he will, but I fully understand a future 2nd+cash trade for the guy, as he only fell that low due to how deep this year's draft was.

Elleby just seemed like a Kolde drafting a fellow Wazzu alumni pick. Weak draft, so nothing inherently bad or wrong about it so long as the team is smart enough to let him walk if he doesn't show significant improvement this season.

Jones is a pretty good comp skill wise but Brown is significantly bigger and stronger. Jones gets blown up by screens and generally pushed around because he's so lanky but Brown will be able to bully people with a few years.

I think Brown is a much better shooter at the same age, which still isnt saying much. His form is alot smoother. DJJ shoots like a robot.
