Every May we have the same discussion. Mets fans all hyped about their team. They start off hot and come in here putting down the Yankees. Like clockwork... August rolls around and the Mets are sinking in the standings as the Yankees make their playoff push. Every single year.

It’ll take a few years to get rid of that Wilpon stench.

I was barely hopeful only because of deGrom. We really haven’t hit all year. Stroman’s ERA is under 3.00 and his record is 8-12. This team never put it together this season. And we lose Lindor the same time we lose deGrom. But whatever. Every team has to deal with injuries.

It could’ve been worse. We could’ve signed Bauer to a mega-deal.

Who stays and who goes in the off-season will be waiting on the new CBA. I don’t pretend to agree with Ninja Cashman on every move but getting the Cubbies to eat Rizzo’s salary while largely solving the annual rule 5 draft crunch at the cost of Alcantara was a thing of beauty in a year where several prospects are exceeding expectations.

I never like dissing the Mets - they keep trying, and they don't troll the Yanks. They have just been amazin' - amazingly erratic.

Dissing the Nyets is of course not only acceptable but required of all Knicks fans. They troll us constantly and have one of the most characteroligcially impaired rosters in the NBA. They also got rid of a lot of good people and hired freakin mercenaries. Put that whole team on the F train so they can all get F'ed.

Ford was traded to the Rays for cash an a PTBNL. That player turned out to be a 22 year old OF prospect Aldenis Sanchez who is tearing up Low-A ball hitting .433/.500/.588 (33 hits, 8 doubles, 2 homers, 15 rbis, 13 steals in just 23 games).


So 2 excellent moves by ol Cash.

This is so true. Alot of the "top prospects" we traded are so bad that you Almost feel bad for the other team.

I don't follow the prospects as religiously as I did a few years ago, but from checking on the trades, etc, Cashmand and the Yankees do a really good job of internally scouting their players. They are pretty good at scouting in general, so they always have a talented and deep farm system - at least a few years before the Chapman\Miller trades which really helped vault it upwards and it stayed there for a bit. Dipped a little, but mostly because players made the pros or were traded for other pros. So, maybe other teams do a little better of getting the very top end guys, but there are so few, not sure of this assessment.

But when it comes down to deciding who to protect, who to trade etc? Cashman and the Yanks rarely falter. Never? Of course not. But really good track record.

You really have to dig, but the worst ones I can think of in the last 15 years or so are giving up Mark Melancon in the Berkman trade in 2010 and giving up Tyler Clipper ion 2007 for Jonathan Albaladejo. Both had very goo success elsewhere in the pen. For those to be the worst though, obviously Cash is doing something well. More recent ones which could come back to haunt us are giving up Justus Sheffield and Erik Swanson to Seattle for Paxton and even more notably giving up James Kaprielian in the Sonny Gray deal. That definitely has the potential to be the worst Yankees trade in the last 20+ year and it might not end up being close. Right idea, since clearly Sonny Gray can really pitch - just not in NY.
