Surely I would take the 3 trips to the finals. That means you were one of the best teams and had 3 entertaining seasons to watch including deep runs into the postseason.

Having a team that can compete for wins but is just 1 move away is a lot closer to winning a ring eventually compared to 3 1sts. After 3 finals maybe my team has enough control of it's picks that it can go get that one guy.

3 Straight finals appearances. I roll on a dice for 4th and win it on 4th time.

My 1st reaction was the 3 1st draft picks. But ultimately I choose the 3 Finals L's. That sustained success can not be slept on. And you can always draft 1 or 2 bust players that still leave you in the lottery for years to come.

3 #1 picks. It's stupid, but losing multiple finals in a row is actually considered a negative in our sports discourse. It's not seen as 3 silver medals - disappointing but ultimately respected, it's ridiculed. Given who my football team is...I know too well

It would be pretty gutting to make the finals 3 straight times and not win...

Re: 3 straight 1st overall picks vs 3 straight Finals losses
at first I thought this was a dumb question. Then I thought it was a good question that had an obvious answer - picks. Then I read the posts and reconsidered. Honestly I think a good case can be made for either. Just as there is also a big downside to either.
It's true that 3 #1 picks doesn't guarantee you anything. So that is a big negative. And yeah, it means a whole humongous amount of losing. but at least it also means hope.
But I think people are really underestimating just how brutal 3 consecutive finals losses would be to a franchise and to a fanbase. Sure the ride would be fun each year, and profitable, but the end result, either due to choking in the finals or to heartbreakingly close losses - wow that would hurt. and hurt bad. i don't know that i would want to hurt that bad. pretty sure i wouldn't. The main example I can think of like that is the Buffalo Bills who lost 4 straight Super Bowls. Pretty sure that remains a huge gaping emotional wound in Buffalo decades later, and is not remembered as a glorious period of sustained success, even though it surely was. And if Lebron hadn't come back it would be the same thing in Cleveland I bet.
So yeah, sticking with the picks. hope over hurt.

If you lose in 3 straight finals that means your team is a legit contender that gave your countless memorable moments over those 3 seasons. And will likely still contend in season 4.
Having 3 straight #1 picks is just a tool used to help build a team that could make the finals. And that comes with zero guarantees

As a Wolves follower, I found this to be one of the dumbest/most obvious polls I've ever seen.
The organization has not even won 3 playoff series in its existence.

Has anyone considered that to even be in a position to be drafting #1 in back to back to back years, those two initial picks have to be pretty underwhelming? I mean, a true franchise changing player is probably going to be able to elevate you out of that territory pretty quickly and thus take you out of the running for #1 overall barring some extreme fluke like Orlando in '93.

So you mean it's not worth it to be one of the worst teams in the league for multiple seasons... just for the chance to wait multiple seasons to maybe, possibly make even one NBA Final...
The Promise of Hope has no limits. Apparently.

I know it's already been pointed out, but just look at Lebron's career. He's lost six of them. He's also won four.
It's better to be close, than far. Even if your efficiency isn't very good.

Re: 3 straight 1st overall picks vs 3 straight Finals losses
In the past 20 years of #1 picks 12 of them were really good all stars. Most likely Ayton/Cade/Antman will be all stars soon, giving about 15/20 legit talent all stars. 3 of them will make a real good team. Though 3 straight finals losses, hasn't really happened in nba, think that kind of team will be elite. It's the whole would you rather take a boat or whatever is in the mystery box. Go with the boat.

Re: 3 straight 1st overall picks vs 3 straight Finals losses
Ha.
I take three 1st picks.
Making 3 finals and losing all 3 means there’s something wrong with your top player(s), that they have so many chances and can’t close. I think there’s a reason this has never happened (I guess the Lebron Cavs almost did… against the greatest team ever… and plunged back to tanking).
#1s can bust but this is a no-brainer. You only hope your FO isn’t Sacramento.
The big mystery is the age of the finals team. Part of me would want to run it over more time, but other factors happen when you lose 3 in a row (FA/stars want out).

3 straight overall picks. It's too painful to lose 3 straight NBA Finals

3 straight number 1 picks means you are guaranteed at least one star, 3 straight finals losses is garbage.

3 straight #1 picks means your team is building for success moving forward.
Easy pick
They don’t talk about the terrible teams like they do the Utah jazz do they? Easy pick 3 finals.
For me as a fan of the Sport, I also value the journey, the joy of winning throughout the season and playoffs etc. Losing the Finals is very disappointing but yes, that Utah run was pretty good.

Getting 3 #1s means there is something wrong with most, if not all, of your players. Also, picking the 3rd means the is something wrong the the first two #1s.
