Re: Gordon re-signs with the nuggets !
One thing I noticed in this tread is that you don't have one Nuggets fan that is not satisfied with resigning Gordon. We all think he fits Nuggs team perfectly. His deal without unlikely incentives is 88/4. Would it be better if it was 4/80? OK 2 mill/year overpay. But with new salary cap in the next few years, maybe it will be underpay. With this team, and I hope good health, the Nuggets are title favorites in better position to compete for title in next 3-5 years than any other team in the league.

You're worried that a team would look at AG, someone who was dealt for not much value, someone who is clearly not a top 3 option on a team, and offer him more than 23m AAV? Really?
As always, all it takes is one team. Detroit gave Jerami Grant both money and big role and absolutely no one saw that coming - at worst everybody thought Nuggets will offer more money and that would be enough, except it wasn't. AG walking away for nothing for whatever reason would've been even bigger fail, since Grant cost only one 1st and AG basically two 1sts plus Gary Harris (who is still damn good defensive player when not injured).
The only reason to take such a gamble would be if you had some sort of assurance that a player you like even more might be available, keeping him unsigned and praying somehow everything works out would be silly.

As long as he can cover Jokic’s weaknesses, should be fine for Denver. If Millsap was only a few years younger…
Beyond that, Randle contract looking pretty nice.

The big over pay for an overrated player, they didn't learn anything from Barton experience, that's why they wont advance further than the first or second round of the play off's , horrible front office.

Are they going to max Porter Jr?BelgradeNugget wrote:FNQ wrote:BelgradeNugget wrote:Which star - Curry, KD, Kawhi, Luka? I hope people don't expect us to trade MPJ for Simmons/Beal type of players because his shooting efficiency is on the level of Curry/KD and with increase in volume his efficiency is better. MPJ is in his 3rd year getting better from month to month. One of the reason AG is so valuable to Denver is his ability to guard SFs and PFs to protect MPJ defensively. Similar to what Klay is doing for GS and Steph. You can say that Beal is similar player to Klay, he is even better ball handler and creator, but when you look at Klay's value to GS, I'm pretty sure GS wouldn't trade healthy Klay for Beal.
Do you even need me to respond? Seems like you're having the whole conversation by yourself.. I'm not suggesting either Simmons or Beal and wouldn't.
Much like I argued with the Warriors, you don't *force* a trade. You simply make yourself ready if one becomes available. The idea that keeping assets around solely for targets you already have.. it makes no sense. Especially as a justification for overpaying a guy who may not have commanded that on the open market next offseason, when there was no real urgency to do so. AG didn't even play very well for the Nuggets. So like I said - big risk with a very slim hope for it being the right move to make.
What was the risk from your side? How well would AG have to play to get 92M on the open market? And even in the unlikely event he's worth that coin, is it worth basically closing the door on a potential high-end acquisition to save whatever the difference would be?
Nah, this all seems very short sighted. Denver's already in a great position so it shouldn't affect them, but this isnt a saavy move by any means
I wasn't responding to observation about AG or his deal. No, he couldn't get this kind of a deal on open market, you are right. His value? Not big for 29 teams, much bigger for Denver because of his fit with our players.
I was responding to the idea that you combine him with MPJ to trade for a star. The fact is simple - stars that have more value for Denver than MPJ are 30+ y/o on max deals, superstars. If they force a trade they will go where they want (see Harden, AD, KD) and it is not Denver.

No, it is clear he is max player and all signing they did this year make sense only if they resign MPJ. AG's contract is signed because of his fit with MPJ, Jok and the rest of the Nuggets. Same with Barton, Green... Without MPJ they are 2nd round team, with him they are serious contenders. Nuggets GM's first signed new player Jeff Green and then, for some reason, started resigning Nuggets players from smallest contract's to biggest ones - Rivers, Ja Green, Barton, AG. Now it is MPJ. They are probably working on some bonuses, player options, staff like that.

Say what you want. AG has been worth every penny. Shuts down KAT in the first round then shuts down KD in the second. I know Jokic gets like 90 percent of the praise but without AG they don’t get past the Suns. Hell of a job!

I’m kind of surprised ppl were this down on it. He got paid for sure but he’s kind a of a great fit next to jokic.

Re: Gordon re-signs with the nuggets !
He's really impressed me with his play in DEN. Gordon is not needed to be the top scorer helping him to defend pretty well, and no pressure to be #1 option on offense even though he gives them nice additions. Would love to see his 3PT% increase but overall a great addition and I think Jokic loves the lob outlet, they have great timing on those plays in general.
Cheers

Credit to AG. In the exit interview last year he said he was going to study tape in the off-season to improve his BBIQ. He situational awareness has improved. He reads the game better and it has payed dividends working with jokic. The two man game they have together is remarkable.
