Chicago - Memphis - Toronto

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Wed Sep 15, 2021 12:19 am

Chicago trades: DJJ, POR 2022 lotto protected 1st
Chicago receives: Boucher, MEM 2023 2nd

Toronto trades: Dragic, Boucher
Toronto receives: Adams, Culver, POR 2022 lotto protected 1st

Memphis trades: Adams, Culver, 2023 2nd
Memphis receives: Dragic, DJJ

Why for Chicago: get a win-now PF who fits well next to Vuc
Why for Toronto: get a stop-gap C, SG reclamation project and a pick for their expiring veterans
Why for Memphis: get out of Adams' 2nd year

I think Memphis really likes the fit of Adams and what he can bring to our team, but yeah you do this with little hesitation. Culver is a project who our FO was supposedly high on in his draft, but he is a poor man's Melton. Dragic helps bring some win-now value back to replace a chunk of what we lose sending out Adams and we clear a lot of cap space for next offseason. Our FO highly values cap space as an asset to get what they want so I think they'd be all over this given the price. Dragic could even get flipped for a 2nd or something at the deadline potentially if we are not in the playoff/play-in picture somehow.

I would prefer to not do the Culver/DJJ swap and maybe pay another 2nd to avoid it and the extra 3.4m that comes along with it.

I don't mind the 3.4m difference since it isn't like we are using that space any other way. I do agree though that if the FO really does see something in Culver then finding a way to keep him out of the deal is a smart route to consider as long as it is a cheap alternative. I wonder if Oturu would be an interesting piece for Toronto as a project big. Adams+Oturu for Dragic or something similar.

I like it for the Raps. I’d even part with a SRP going to Chicago to help make it happen if need be. Bulls are the only team I could see wanting more in a deal like this.

I'm okay with this. Also fine with psman's tweak of not doing the Culver/DJJ swap and sending another 2nd to Chicago or Toronto. Feels like Chicago is overpaying a bit though since they chose that pick over Nance and I'm not valuing Boucher more than Nance.

no real interest in adams at the expense of the players and contracts that are attached to boucher and dragic. adams and culver seem redundant and less useful

Technically this would be Boucher + 2 seconds instead of Nance :). Boucher is more productive offensively and provides more rim protection than nance too.

No the Bulls aren't going to give up a 1st round pick they need to replenish the 3 they've traded away and not for the expiring contract of a guy who had a breakout half a season after a middling career prior.

The value is fine to good for Memphis, but I would love a follow-up that rebalanced the roster by flipping Dragic for a comparable big man.

Boucher had produced at similar levels the years prior the only major difference was more opportunity with gasol and ibaka no longer in the front court. Can’t knock the guy for not being gifted minutes with those guys, Siakam and OG all playing minutes at the 4/5.

He would be a great get for the bulls. He’s basically a better markkanen. 80% of both their shots are 3s or at the rim with Boucher being more balanced in his attack. Then Boucher comes with elite shot blocking as well which the bulls don’t currently have. This should be an easy yes.

Purely hypothetically, what's the value difference between Boucher and Siakam?
